Canopy breach: What a rush! (Pun intended.)

I always felt, that if your canopy was breached - there should be an option for a one hit kill shot, since you could blast straight into the cockpit and fry the pilot. Would make it another valid target to attack on ships.

Did you notice after you got the new canopy they didn't even bother cleaning it. Just as dirty as the old one before it was destroyed. Joking aside, this is what makes Elite fun. Consequences associated with the gameplay and not glitches.

Always at the very least go for D life support, it weighs less then E and it lasts 7:30 rather then 5, or at least that's my advise.

When I was new I think I looked for "Clean windscreen" under the repairs options a couple of times.

Took on a mission to get rid of Paelo , who had been causing a lot of trouble. (Mind you, with a name like that I'd be pretty off at the world, too.)

Seemed like a no-brainer until I found out it was an Anaconda. Still, my Python managed to get him eventually.

Unfortunately my canopy was breached towards the end of the fight, and so it was a mad dash to get to a space station within five minutes. Got to the station in time, but ran out of oxygen just as I was entering the mail slot. And without the insurance to cover it, it was back to the Sidewinder for me.

A bit sad, but my own fault. And one hell of an adrenaline rush.

The best part? Having to angle the Python so I could see enough of the HUD to find the station. (It only appears on the bits of the canopy that are still intact.)

Have been there myself two times, albeit with enough money for insurance.
It is indeed a great and intense experience.

Yes, it's these types of encounters that make the game so compelling for me.

I had a heart in my throat moment recently because I was an idiot and did not double check my power configuration. I had recently upgraded my shield generator from B to A and changed my cannons from gimballed to fixed, thinking that the difference in power would be minimal.

Well, it was minimal enough. I jumped into a USS and as three sidewinders closed in, I activated my hardpoints, and my ship died......Thrusters, shields, Lasers, everything...gone....

(Yes folks there's a reason you don't put everything as priority 1 in power management).

I stood in shock...What the hell??? By the time I snapped out of it, I was down to 50 percent hull. I retracted the hardpoints, energized the thrusters and boosted six times before I engaged FSD and limped home.

I later found the culprit. I had upgraded my fuel scoops on the previous visit and forgot to assign them a different priority. And since I was only running two priority levels, (pri 1 was combat systems, pri 2 was non combat systems) it was enough to drop the entire ship.

I was so close to paying nearly a million credits for my lack of planning, but the threat of death was a rush.

Needless to say, I now use ALL 5 priority levels. Pri 1 has thrusters only in it....

How many more MJ's can you squeeze out of a power plant by fine tuning your priorities like that? I've noticed on several occassions thatadding just that one more ultility or whatever will only boost usage a few 10ths or 100th's of a MJ over the PP limit. Will changing power prorities give you those additional MJ's back?

The rounding issue you refer to is due to the rounding error produced due to calculating "percentage". Without actually going into dock or using something like ED Shipyard online, you can't see the actual power usage of your components. on the modules screen you only get a rough idea with percentage.

So let's say your gimballed beams actually take 7.4% each. Well they show up individually as 7% each, but when you power both of them, you notice you lose 15% (7.4 x 2 = 14.8 rounded up to 15%)

That's where your little losses come from and it's nothing to do with priority. Priority just allows you to choose what order you want systems to power down in low power conditions.

At least you weren't docking at an Outpost, with a queue.. I died! lol

In hindsight it was a stupid move. But I was really desperate to get rid of my "Hostile" status with the Federation, and I thought this might seal the deal.

Ouch. If you could have waited a bit longer, your faction reputation seems to decay quite quickly in 1.3. Less than two days into the beta test all of my hostile and allied statuses had dropped to unfriendly or friendly, respectively. And this happened even when not logged in.

Went after an Elite Anaconda in my cobra... How is it they always target our canopies?

The Cobra's canopy in particular takes up a lot of surface area and is positioned almost directly underneath the reticule by default when the ship is targeted, so it's prone to take a lot of fire. And if you think it's bad now, you should have seen it back at release before FD adjusted its resistance.
