Canopy compromised

I am 20K LY away with compromised canopy. There are cracks on very top and very bottom of my ASP canopy
Its my first trip in ASP... how much more it can handle before cracks open ?

I cracked mine 15Kylies out when I had a bit of an argument with a Neutron Star.
I still stayed out another 3 weeks and had no further isses, Im sure someone else will be able to tell you in greater detail but Im pretty sure on your 4th canopy damage it will pop.

Should have brought the duct tape.

It's a matter of personal preference and safety.
I can tell you that the canopy goes through three stages of damage, in the third, its lost.
One set of cracks at the very edges is not immediately dangerous. You should be ok to continue exploring.

Ive gone about 8 or 9 kylies on my first set of cracks so far, and no big deal.

It pops on the 4th, not 3rd :)

or crack1, crack2, crack3, *break*

if it's the latter, thats what I meant I just worded it poorly, I meant: "when youve got the third layer of cracks, another break will pop the canopy" if that is incorrect, then I stand corrected.

Only as long as accident only does 1 set of cracks. A particularly large bump might do 2, and you would never know.
I dont know if SC crashing can do that much damage, but it may.

The latter , I think it used to be : (might still be)
1. Canopy Compromised
2. Canopy Breached
3. Canopy Critical
4. POP !

yeah thats what I meant, I just worded it poorly. In my defense os my poor wording the window itself does only have three levels of damage, because the fourth level of damage is no window at all :p

Just kissed a star and my canopy is compromised. I'm 25000Lys out so not much to do but carry on I guess. My goal is SAG A*, only 500Lys to go. I was going to head straight home after the cracks appeared but now I know I've got two more "lives" I think I'll hang out in the core for a bit longer and try to be a bit more careful.

So, am I just extra careful or lucky? I've been out for about 3 weeks and everything is still 100%.

I'm not trying to be facetious here, I'm genuinely curious if I've just been lucky up to this point.

Lucky, its all to do with concentration. let it slip once and boom. I have had two slips and lost 2% of my hull, both head butts into planets, overshooting and getting close to see if it was the one I thought it was, wouldnt happen now in 1.3. Stars I am more paranoid about so am very careful.

Generally I think you'll only have problems if you get a bit cocky / impatient / bored and start scooping at too high a speed, or maybe if you're racing towards an item to scan and miss the 7-second threshold but still try to finish the scan before overshooting.

Or doing something REALLY stupid, like turning off your thrusters mid-supercruise. Not that I know anyone who that's ever happened to, no sirree bob...

Really? It doesn't make much sense that the canopy breaches before it's critical. Strange.

I had an issue* 11,000 ly out from SOL which left my ship on fire, 41% structure and most of my modules burnt to hell.
I didn't know ships could get so hot and not blow up, I decided to repair the modules the best I could and continue. I got to Sag A, and home again only losing another 1%.
You can get pretty torn up and still carry on :)


* Number two son decided to spill his drink next to the wifes laptop while I was scooping fuel from a safe distance, had to rescue the laptop and clean up his mess and change him (hes two). Strange alarm sounds started coming from my PC, oh s###! Still scooping, and on fire! Not sure of the exact % my heat was at but it was over 200%, my ship stayed on fire and full of smoke until I logged off.
