Newcomer / Intro Canopy damage - repair..?

I have a question about repairing Canopy

Here's what happened:

Got into a battle and got scragged; survived, but sustained great damage, including Canopy - Life support says '7 minutes' remaining

Go to right hand panel, Canopy shows up RED. I have an AFM fitted, but Canopy won't respond.

I can't make it to a station within 7 mins, so I choose to 'Reboot/Repair'

Sure enough, the reboot sequence cycles ok. Canopy on the HUD still has a huge gaping hole.

Go to Right hand panel again. Canopy is no longer red, now yellow, but at 0%. Click on it. There are 'Inactive' and 'Repair' options for the AFM. Repair is in yellow, still at 0%, but the AFM won't start to repair it

You know what happened next.... in space, no-one can hear you scream....


So, is canopy repairable or not..? Not? even when it's yellow in the repair screen?

I've repaired my canopy out in the void. It looks as though you had turned off your AFM if it shows inactive. Do you turn off modules for heat efficiency or to reduce power usage?

Try going into the R hand module screen and turning the AFM or cargo hatch on/off to see the difference. The "oh poop" factor gets high in those situations when you're scrambling to fix an issue. Would have been easy to not recognize the module wasn't powered on in a situation like that.

I had this exact same thing happen to me the other day.. My canopy was blown out, but wouldnt repair.. Later that same day I got it cracked (not blown out) and it was repaired. So I am assuming repair only works on a cracked canopy, not a blown out one.

My incident happened about 4-5 months ago. I recall specifically that I was on emergency oxygen but now you guys have me doubting the condition of the canopy when it happened. I'll recreate the event when I get back to the bubble... for science lol.

Repair via the AFMU is as far as I know only for damaged items not destroyed ones.

When you repair a damaged canopy it, like anything else you repair, gets switched off which puts you onto your emergency life support.

Remember your life support timer won't reset until you are in a station or outpost.
