Canopy Modules? Why not.

Current glass is a bit dirty, so lets introduce some Canopy Modules.

Class E
Rated is current standard.
Class D
Lighter, less HP, Cleaner look. (more transparent glass just for exploration)
Class C
Standard HP, Slightly more weight. Cleaner look.
Class B
Seriously highest HP, uses internal Screens to see through, Player sight limited by sensors, Uses power. No power = blinded player. Can not breach.
Class A
HP somewhere between B and C. Uses Screens and power. Canopy armor can be disabled during flight to provide class D transparent glass canopy. Can't switch when no power. When enabled can not breach.

Sounds fancy. It only requires the developers to rework each and any ships cockpit (for obvious reasons) and model (to display open or closed armour), along with implementing a "sensor vision mode".

I'd be all for it, if we'd have unlimited developer time. As long as we don't, i think there's a number of more important things around.

Sensor vision mode = wireframes :D

We already have something similar and it is called night vision mode.

E is ready, C, D requires change if texture of glass... (make it clear and more transparent, because this right now looks like a scratched or dirty one)

Most of work is with B, A but it can be done with texture change from outside, and specific shader from inside.

You know nanotechnology and stuff could exist in future...

Rest of canopies can be just like an external ship kit.

Win Win situation.

Moreover - guardian canopy... Glass less canopy done as a shield luke in startrek ng.

Still there is no visual difference in used armor. No difference in model when useg lightweight, reinforcesed, redlective etc...

Just need to use Solid texture.

We can repair the canopy now, all that's needed.

We can't repair those damn scratches.. seriously, I buy a *brand new* Krait Mk2, and it comes all scratched up with wires trailing around the cockpit. If I had bought a car, heck, even a year later, and it looked like that, I'd be getting a replacement quick smart or running to Consumer Affairs.

LOL You must live in the USA. Buy a new car in that condition, then hire a lawyer. :)

He DOES have a point though...brand new ships ought to look brand new, don't you think?

Now if there were a used market with ships that other players have sold off? THAT would be interesting in its own right.

I like to think that buying ships in Elite is like that scene in Firefly where Mal finds Serenity.

Not sure if the visual aspect would be easy to implement or if people would like it, but what about give them more integrity/hit points?
