Canopy Unshielded ?

Does it seem reasonable that the canopy on my ship was blown but i still had shields active? If the shields protect the structural integrity of the ship while active how is it possible for a canopy to be shattered before the shields drop? Doesn't seem right to me.

Shield protects you only from weapon fire and collisions. Emerency drop damage or heat damage will still apply to hull/modules directly. So you can completely destroy module or ship entirely with shield still up, depends on what you were doing.

Did the Python have Rail Guns?

Rail guns do get full penetration, but only once shields are down (including the hit that actually destroys the shields).

As others have pointed out, you must have taken sub system damage in some other form. Did you cook yourself using an SCB?

don't know if it did.

I had two rings of shields and had only been at the location for a few minutes. i don't use scb's on my FAS.

Yep good as new... with a shiny new A-5 Life support system :D

I don't use A rated life support any more because I have a courier for combat, which has had its tiny canopy breached a grand total of 0 times. But earlier on when I had a DBS (awesome ship for the money btw) I had an A rated life support and went on a massive string of cockups that involved me trying to dock with a breached canopy, forgetting to ask permission, waiting outside the station with the timer running down again, and the security services starting on me because I had a bounty.

Yeah, that was the most tense flight out I've done so far.

Yea i can relate to tense...because of the short time, 7 one half minutes of air i couldn't finish off the Python but had to turn tail and run to the nearest station that had no repair facilities which meant i had to get to a larger station for repairs. Lesson learned 25 minutes of oxygen is MUCH better than 7 and one half minutes[up]

Was it player or npc python? Was there other player in same instance? Because it was probably network lag. Your shields were actually down but because of lag you didn't get to know that you had lost your shields. There is a lot of videos on youtube how they get killed by ships that shoot totally different direction and then when they catch up their ship instantly blow up. If you watch same fight from someone else perspective your ship take hits and fly straight line until it explode.
