Can't add a friend !

Hello there.

I recently offered the game to a friend, and he just got out of the Pilots' Federation. I have tried adding him as a friend from the social menu, but I can't find him with his commander name (I made sure he gave me his commander name, not his Steam name). I tried going to the exact same startport, but he doesn't show on my radar, nor in my contact list.
How can I solve this ? Is this caused by matchmaking ?

You need to log in and out a whole bunch until you both end up in the same instance.

Fun right? It's just one of those things that has been wrong for forever and they've completely ignored.

Yes, we are on the same platform : I am a PC player (hence playing on Steam) and offered him the game through the Steam store !

I also posted on reddit and got an answer from Frontier support : some players with an underscore in their name (like my friend) can't be found via the friend search. I scooted around the Frontier issues and found 4 other persons with exactly the same issue. So I confirmed it on my side with screenshots.
We need people to try and reproduce the bug (search will fail 100% of the time), so it can be confirmed.

I remember a similar post in 2014 in the old style forums funny enough
they should fix_ it or offer a free name change so you can link up period without stats loss imo
