Newcomer / Intro Can't close power regulator housing

Please help! I've put the power regulator inside the housing in the power control room of the abandoned settlement. But it won't close. The only interaction it shows i "[E] TAKE", which I don't want to do as I've only just put it there.

How do I close the housing so the power regulator allows me to turn on the power at the console? The tutorials on YouTube just skip over this bit, once the regulator is put into the extended tubular drawer bit they turn away. They don't show how to get the drawer to close.

Any help appreciated.

You probably need security level to activate the power console, you could either clone the profile from an NPC (if you find one near-by) or hack it using an E-Breach which you can buy from Pioneer shops in Anarchy systems.

The in-game introduction tutorial includes a section where you have to power up the settlement and it shows you every step required to do so.

Elite is one of those games where one of the first pieces of advice I give to new players besides "never fly without rebuy" is "don't skip the tutorials". Sure, you can leave the advanced combat tutorial until later since it's a touch more difficult, but the basic how-to scenarios? Do 'em.

Hmm, seem to have done it somehow, but now can't put out the fires. The tutorial / training session this time didn't say how to do it, it went straight onto the data download then the shooting :(

I didn't skip the tutorials, I've done the on-foot one three times,. but this time it skipped the p[utting-out fires bit.

But I did do the security scan (level 3 cloned profile) so at least I got further. Just too much is on fire! Good point about the e-beaches. I brought two power regulators, but didn't replenish the e-beaches. I'll recall my ship.

Go outside the building, look for big red maintenance panel - cut it open - activate the atmospheric control (de-activates / decompresses) - air escapes - fires go out - re-activate atmospheric control ...

Not just Anarchy.

Communist systems also sell them.

Hi,
If you have the power back on, the you can use any terminal to show the buildings and the atmospheric units (look at external units).
You need to cut the access panel off the atmospheric unit, then use "E" to empty the buildings of air/oxygen

Hmm, why do these "abandoned" bases always have 4+ scavengers showing up after a few minutes? Even Low security ones with no mission? They seem to think they can wipe out a fully-engineered Prismatic shield Corvette with their hand weapons.

Thanks, I got the panel off but didn't have the breach tool I needed to activate it. Or when I went to do the power, didn't have the regulator - one or the other always seems to apply. Back to base!

Are you doing it as missions, or just reactivating the base to loot it? Reactivate and restore missions should just give you the access you need as part of the mission.

Originally there was a mission to that base but it did not require power to be turned on. I went back later to scavenge what I could from the habitation lockers etc, outside of any missions.

However, a separate issue has come up after another mission (to a different, inhabited base). It was a simple "collect a fossil" one, but the mission-giver has vanished from the station where he gave the mission. I can't hand it in, despite having completed it!
