Can't find a way to kick off my Empire career

Hi all.

I've looked around the forums and I can see the information re: how to rank up, even descriptions of the various missions and the ranks they give you. The problem for me is I've been from station to station, I've even turned two Empire stations to friendly, and I still am not getting any missions to kick off my rise to the rank of Baron (so I can get my Clipper).

I have the credits to get a Clipper, now I need the rank.

So, could anyone share their knowledge on how to get the career progression going? As I feel like I'm banging my head up a Coriolis wall at the moment... ;)

TL;DR version: How do I get the first mission on the Empire military ladder?

for me the first mission showed up when i was trading in the outer parts of the empire. didn't do many missions since there were none that could easily be accomplished.
many days after i'm still trading there...but haven't ranked up higher than "Master" although i'm now allied to the empire (just by flying my trade route).

but i don't care about it... not really interested in the clipper (or the empire).

You need to do a few missions for them first. The ones that pay nothing but reward you with reputation gain will get you noticed by the Empire. Then you will start getting naval ascension missions. Do other missions for Empire factors to gain influence as well for faster progression. It's a bit of a slog at first but then they will come on a lot faster as time goes on.

First of all find a good system that has some good trade routes and where they sell the clipper, either do trade runs or missions, get to friendly shortly after you should start getting naval missions, if you don't once you get allied with the station selling the clipper you should be able to purchase it, i was allied and at knight when I had raised enough credits to buy the clipper and make it useable. It apears you only need baron if your not allied with the station your buying it from. HTH

I've been stuck at knight now for 3 days not a single mission anywhere for me atm :(

Ok thanks CMDR's.

I am at a station that sells the Clipper, I'm friendly with the station too, but no naval ascension missions in over 10 hours of playing coming back to this (or the other Empire station I'm friendly with) station.

I'll try doing some of the missions for the dominant sub-faction there maybe that might kick it off?

it may do, it took a while for them to show up for me then went to knight in a matter of hours, since then nothing at all, maybe there's something up with them atm, but they seem to be a rarity, normally if they dry up I move to a different station do a few missions and they crop up again, but that's not working for me at the moment. Hope you find some soon, I love the clipper i'm just trading in it atm and saving up for some upgrades but it can pull in over 2.5 million/hr for me atm, and profits don't seem to be fluctuating at all for me atm :)

Thanks, gives me the motivation to keep on going. I'm so bored with looking at the interior of the Type 7 now I need a change of view :) And of course, the Clipper is just swish full stop imo. :)

I'll keep plugging away at it cheers :)

Just kill some feds, as many as you can.

I'm a lover not a fighter ;)

Becoming allied with factions generates missions. But one has to keep adding new factions to the list by going to more systems. Then the missions will become available. Staying with the same faction doesn't work.

I went to IOTA HYDRI started doing missions for empire pact then the naval missions appeared after a while. Also some nice trade runs around that system as well.
Plus FAUST 68 is a High Tech system so all your ship requirements can be purchased there.

I would definitely recommend swapping systems if you're not having any luck. More than once during my Imperial career I've been offered ranking missions very shortly after switching to a new location.

Personally, I'm not convinced that all systems/factions offer the ranking missions. In particular, I've had better fortunes with patronages than corporates.

I spent a number of hours banging my head against this. Trading in Empire got me my first rank. In the end I've decided to stick with my Type 7 and go straight to the python. I didn't really enjoy the missions. They feels like one of the crappiest elements in the game, slow, illogical and repetitive. Also, in the time it was taking to rank up and get the clipper, I could instead crank up the trading and go right for my dream ship instead. Maybe if they get a better rank system later I'll go back and play those missions.

Ill tell you what I did, It may help.. When I was in federation space I was just interested in trading runs, I had a run back and fourth between 2 huge population systems one was Hitech/extraction the other agricultural, I ran back and forth about 20 times building up credits, every visit I would check the buletin board and pick up missions for the stations federation faction owner, would not pick up missions for the independents.. I mainly went for source cargo missions which would appear each trip back and forth, once I had about 15 missions excepted and before time run out I would then trot off to a nearby system that had all the items I needed to source, fill up with the various items and then return back to the stations and complete the missions usually about 5 to each station. I then instantly became friendly or allied with that station and it appears green in the hud display..Then after a couple more trade runs a Naval mission appears, drop everything run that mission and return to the station, you will probably find a naval mission then appears every run or 2 between your trade routes. It happens fast at that point just keep running the missions, first will be find guns or combat stabalizers, then I think it was a couple of deliveries, then you get the find General so and so, since I was only trading and did not have a fighting ship Type 6, I put off running that mission but kept picking up more and more Find general so and so.. I believe I had 10 of them to complete before I actually stored my type 6 and bought a Viper.. Only one needs doing so dont make the mistake I did and pick up all those missions. :)
It worked in Federal space and got me from none to Ensign within 4 hours..After each promotion you usually get a Federation invite permit, beta hydi, PLS, then Ross (Never did get a Sol Permit dont know why?)
Since I was only gaining rank to get a SOL permit so I could fly past earth I gave up and headed for the Empire so I can get a Clipper one day when I have enough credits..
Went to the Wuru System did exactly the same thing, just trading back and forth between 2 stations, picking up the odd mission from the empire faction that owns the station, and running those missions when I have enough together to make it worth deviating from my trade route.. Once the first Naval mission appeared it was then one navy mission after another to get to Master, and the Achenar permit.(Just killed general so and so) so I think if its the same as the FEDS tonight mission will be go kill some pirates and get KNight..
I thought I might not be able to do this since I was ranked with the Feds but I guess it does not matter you can be ranked with both Feds and Empire..
PS once I finished the combat missions I sold off the viper and got my money back, but I think I will stay in the empire with my viper this time to build up some fighting cudos, because I am still only neutral with the empire and I hear killing wanted ships in front of the PO PO gets you there faster..
