Can't find diamonds?

Hiya,

Sorry if noob question but I've been trying for hours to find low temp diamonds with practically zero success. I've been going to low temp hot spots, triggering the pulse wave and firing prospector limpets into every orange rock within about 15km of the hot spot. None have had diamonds in the core for hours now. I've been through hundreds of limpets. When I very first started this evening I did get a couple that had diamond deposits and I don't think I'm doing anything different, do you think there's something I'm missing?

thanks for any help

The only worthwhile spot I found for LTD's was Borann triple hotspot, but even that was tedious.

Painite double hotspots seem better for me.

HTH

I just use Prospectors and mining lasers.

Cool thanks. I'll check it out and vary up what I'm looking for. Saw all these posts about big hauls per hour and thought I must be missing something.

It's no good firing at every orange/yellow asteroid. I guess that around 5% of them are the correct shape rock, and roughly 25% of those have the fissures that are needed to split the asteroid to get the LTDs out and only some of those will actually have and LTD core. Firing at anything that doesn't have the fissures is just a waste of limpets.

See one of the video tutorials online to get an idea of the shape that is needed and then study the actual asteroid, because they can look very different depending on the angle and lighting.

Yesterday while exploring I found a double LTD hotspot by accident.
I went to get mining equipement and come back.

Strangely enough, when I did come back, the red and yellow cicles visualy marking the hotspots in the ring, where not displayed anymore. (Supercruise minimal speed, Analysis mode)

Anyway, the hotspots where sttil in my pannel and I could find the double hotspot again.
Went there, spend some time firing 50+ prospector limpets at 50+ astéroid. And find only ONE asteroid with LTD, (and it had only 5%).
Something is wrong right ? I guess I'm supposed to find more of them in double hotspots right ?

The interesting thing I've noticed is that what ever the hotspot is designates what is not in the location. it seems like some one decided to mix things up by putting names on hotspots that don't correspond to the ore being sought. The other day I wanted 50 bromelite, so I went to a void opal hotspot and with full confidence mined 50 bromelite in about 2 hours. found 20 void opals in that time. 2 asteroids worth. I found bromelite everywhere though. I'd be willing to bet if someone took the time to actually log and calculate you'd be able to identify which sites give what item more abundantly but it won't be what its listed as.

It is important to realize that there are two different methods to mining LTDs in an LTD hotspot.

1. Core mining
Use Pulse wave to find bright asteroids and if they are the correct shape check content with prospector only if they have Fissures visible. Split open with seismic charges if they have the right core. Gets 12-16 LTDs per asteroid, but asteroids are far apart.

2. Laser mining - only worthwhile where 2 or preferably 3 hotspots overlap
Target any asteroid with a prospector and look for percentage of LTD in asteroid content, if any. If high enough for you use mining laser to burn off LTDs. Seems to get 4-6 LTDs per asteroid with a 25% content, but these asteroids are more common. Note that the asteroids that glow with the pulse wave seem to NOT have LTDs in them suitable for laser mining, so you could use the pulse wave to see which asteroids not to target with the prospectors.
