cant find scanners

hi, sorry for the totally newb question that i am sure has been answered a 1000 times, but I cant pull up the scan function. I look in the core and optional equipment and dont see it there. when I use Joy 5 it doesnt appear. I am new to Elite dangerous, but played the original Elite on the C64, lo these many years ago! (I would sneak into my kids room at night to play!) thanks for any help, or suggest a good link for new pilots....

There are 5+ scanners at least. Some must be installed as separated module.
Make sure it is configured on right panel in modules group for fire button. Then you use it as weapon except it may need be in "scan mode" instead "attack mode".
Also Full Spectrum Scanner minigame has own button to start, you must configure that too in game settings. It is used in super cruise when ship is stopped.

Basic scanner is automatic, just need lock target (on smalls like ships), or not important for bigs (like planets) and come close enough. For planets is like 100ls. For ships couple KMs.
