Newcomer / Intro Can't get 'Navy Rank up' mission to spawn, stuck at 100%

Been doing the Ceos/Sothis run for the last two days now and finally hit 100% on Post Captain 16 hours ago..but haven't seen the usual "federal navy" mission drop for that sweet rank up.

Is there meant to be something else I need to do to unlock the Rear Admiral rank or is something bugged? I've spent the last two hour board hopping but no luck - I keep getting the usual mining, data, etc mission and about 5 planetary scan "follow on" missions.

I am 100% with the Feds and am in Fed space but none of the stations that used to give the Rank up missions up until now are doing so for this last bit. I know the rep is saved for the next rank but I only really wanted to get to Rear Admiral (and almost there) so no real interest with the last two Fed ranks. Any help? Is this a bug?

------- UPDATE:-------

I was about to send in a bug report when a Navy Mission finally dropped, 4 miserable hours later. I don't know if its a mechanic that I don't know about or just coincidence but here is what I did that resulted in a Navy mission popping in right after (might work for anyone else who gets stuck at Post Captain,...again could just be dumb luck tho)

> Accept all the "follow on" missions available at a station from the faction allied with the Feds (in my case they were all Planatary Scan missions given by the Federation Unite faction)

> Abandon one of these missions. This drops your rep with them (it was maxed prior to this)

> Do a normal Rep mission with them (courier/data/ etc..) to regain the lost rep

> Once you are at max rep with them, relog/board swap (in my case I went from solo to open)

> Found a Navy mission waiting for me at the "Follow on" mission section.

Again, could be coincidence but after constantly relogging and boardhopping and powering through with the delivery missions I could not see the Rank Up mission appear till I did the above (heck, I am 98% the way to Vice Admiral). If the 'Rank up" mission propagation has something to do with all the factions getting to max rep with you, then this could explain it and/or why it could also work if you went to a different system.

Anyway, thanks for all the help and suggestions. o7

It used to be that going to a new system and getting the needed rep with the appropriate faction could speed the appearance of those missions.

There are a couple of current/recent threads in here about ranking that might help.

You mean go to a new system and gain rep with the faction allied with the federation? Curious, but why would that be the case? If you max rep with a faction do they stop giving you rank up missions?

As for other threads, I am aware of other rank up threads but this is a specific issue that cropped up at this specific rank. In fact, there is one other thread about it but no satisfactory answer/conclusion has come out of it. My first thought was a rounding error. If you have 99.99% the system might show it as 100% but recognize that you do not have 100%.

If you have been doing missions since you first saw 100% then you probably went over and my thought is not the problem. But if you have just been swapping boards there would be no effect.

The situation aRJay discussed could have been a rounding error and the solution of grinding reputation someplace else would have pushed the progress over 100%.

It's like that just to keep you from the Vette for a little longer.

;)

Seriously though, just have patience.
Relogging can help.

Interesting.
Did you have a lot of follow on/chained missions stacked?
Could they have been blocking the rank 'follow on' mission?
Baffling, but at least you got one.

That was my reasoning towards the tail end of my frustration. I had about 5-6 Planetary scan missions stacked up and I didn't know if there was a mission cap for "follow on missions" so I accepted them all with no intention of fulfilling them to see if a Navy rank mission would appear from a queue - It did not; the board was instead re-populated with MORE planetary scan missions :/ It may have had something to do with all the money donation missions I did...but yeah, muggled through to success in the end.
