Newcomer / Intro Can't get rid of stolen cargo

Frustrated... Figured out a lot of things but not why to play this. After learning docking and travel and trying my hand at transporting I have accepted a cargo of silver... And I can't jump anywhere with it and I ended up declining the load. Now I have a hold full of silver that says it is stolen and a have a fine now for over 11,000 credits! I don't know what to do. The very frustrating thing about this game is the complete lack of any structure and any help. Like the fine for 400 credits I got. No idea why I got fined!
How do I get rid of this dam silver?

the weight of your ship affects how far you can jump. so when you load it up with cargo it can't jump as far. on the system map there is a slider to tell the computer how much cargo you intend to have when it plots its course.

what's happened here is you've accepted the job, the silver has been loaded onto your ship, then you've told the people where they can stick it and you've kept the cargo. that's why it's marked as stolen and why you have a big fine. any courier mission that asks you to haul from A to B will also warn you of a fine should you fail to deliver, it's their form of insurance against exactly what you did here by mistake :)

if you can find a station (preferably an outpost) with a black market then you can recoup some of the loss by selling the goods there. before you do that however google how to smuggle as if you get caught by a police scan they may fine you all over again. might be safer to jettison it in deep space and go blow some pirates up to earnt the money back. just a few kills will put you back in the black. just take care not to get in fights with skilled pilots, so check their elite rating when picking a target.

It might be worth mentioning that declining a contract once you've accepted it results it a quite severe reputation loss with the faction that issued the mission.
If this is the first mission you took, I'd honestly consider starting over again (clear save) and just chalk it up to experience.

I reset like suggested so I'm happy for now. I have been working on fine tuning my HOTAS X and I'm getting more happy with my ability to control the ship. Thanks !

I was adviced to do the setup/testing of my controling devices in some of the Training missions, that way if I screwed up, no progression loss to my game...
Just for future advice to you cmdr ;)
