Can't get super sampling working (Oculus tray tool and ED)

I am using the latest version of oculus tray tool (0.70.1), running as admin on an admin account. I try setting super sampling to 1.5 before starting any programs or oculus home/apps. Then I run ED in Steam VR and its totally unchanged.

I also tried to make a specific profile for elite dangerous and setting SS to 1.5 and still it does nothing in game.

Please help to get it working.

PS. Oculus debug tool doesn't work for me at all (get cannot connect to service/HMD not connected error, even if I have everything running on an admin account and the programs running as admin).

Thanks.

What's your HMD Quality setting in Elite Dangerous set to? (that's essentially the same thing as the Tray Tool super sampling setting). It's possible one is overiding the other, or perhaps they're multiplying and you've got your HMDQ set really low so it's bringing the total down?

I just tried OpenVR as well, installed it, then ran the desktop mode via startdesktopmode.bat I think set my application SS to 1.5 and even 2.0 both before ED and while in ED and it did nothing.

I tried 3 different methods now and none change anything. It works for so many people I cannot fathom why it doesn't work for me.

I just set it to Ultra level. Made no difference.

That's not HMD Image Quality - that's just general image quality.

There is SS that should generally be set to 1.0 in VR (maybe less for low powered gfx cards).

Then there is HMD Image Quality that should be set to 1.25 or 1.5 or whatever (instead of tray tool).

Where is the hmd option? I don't see it anywhere in graphics.

Do you expand the graphics settings ?

Where you select between high, ultra, vr med, etc there is plus icon.

This means there are more options underneath, might have to click the plus icon with a mouse.
But there is also a keybinds for it in the controls section. But I forget what it was called and where they put it.

What Tor said ^. You don't need to use 3rd party tools for graphics settings in ED anymore. Anything you can find in the tray tool or debugger tool regarding graphics you can do in game. The only exception would be EDProfiler as it lets you change hud colors.

Guys thanks so much for your help. I didn't see that the graphics could be expanded with the plus option in VR. I expanded that and found the HMD and SS settings. I played with them and they do make a difference but the difference is quite mild I found. I guess I was expecting 1440 crispness on a 27 inch panel which was obviously not right.

I tried both HMD at 2.0 and SS at 2.0.. it seemed like SS made a bigger difference but I still find text quite jaggy and pixellated especially on the screens near me... not unreadable but just not crisp.

Thanks so much for your help!

Yeah it doesnt really matter what level you up the resolution.

The resolution of the panels are what you see. It is in my opinion not much more than a really high quality Anti aliasing, which is nice cause the AA used in ED is quite terrible.

I want stable fps more than anything else so I leave my hmd q at 1.25.

Thanks.

I can help with that. Debug tool is now included in your Oculus home installation - look in oculus\support\oculus-diagnostics.
