Can't get TrackIR working again. Please help.

Hey guys, I'm having TrackIR troubles.

Back when the Beta first came out, I had a bit of a spin with TrackIR. I managed to get it working back then. But I was kind of busy at the time, so didn't really get stuck into the game.

Recently I've started actually playing it. Late to the party, yes, I know. :)

Thing is, now that I've started playing again... I can't get TrackIR to work any more.

Here's what I'm doing:

  1. Start TrackIR v5 as admin
  2. Confirm that the TrackIR software is picking up my head motion (left-hand green light is on the 'camera')
  3. Start Elite Dangerous Launcher
  4. Notice that the right-hand light isn't turning on
  5. Get in-game in my ship
  6. No head tracking motion
  7. Green light on the right side of the 'camera' is still off

I've tried checking for Game Updates, and the software says I'm up to date. Elite Dangerous is in the list of games.

I've tried checking to see if my software is up to date. I'm on version 5.2.200, which the TrackIR website says is the latest version.

From memory, last time around this just worked and I didn't have to do anything fancy.

The only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is that my copy of ED is installed to a non-standard directory. It's sitting under E:\Games\Frontier. Is there something I have to do to get that to work with TrackIR if it is in a different location? Maybe?

The entire reason I got TrackIR was so as to play Elite, so I'm a bit miffed that now I actually get around to playing, it isn't working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additional Information
-------------------------

  • I have a profile configured for Elite Dangerous with slightly larger-than-default deadzone on the X and Y axis, because I find it easier to follow the crosshair if I can lock on to it
  • The name of the profile is Elite Dangerous
  • The profile is set up for Elite: Dangerous under the Titles tab
  • I have tried running TrackIR v5 with this profile set to 'exclusive' enabled, but that did not resolve my issue

Do you have a TrackIR profile for the game? There is a game list in the TrackIR app that lets you select which game profile will be used with which game, perhaps selecting one from that list before launching might help.

Oops - I'll have to do a bit more digging, the sensor is saying it can't find an enabled application.

Added additional information to answer the TrackIR profile question.

Thanks for your time. Appreciate the effort. :)

Also: I broke the Yaw on my joystick last night, so had to re-teach myself to use the A and D keys. I've not been having a good run with my peripherals recently.

You could be right about it being related to the non-standard directory Elite is installed in. It certainly sounds like the TrackIR is working, but doesn't activate since it doesn't recognise when Elite is running. (Ideally, that shouldn't be dependent on Elite being installed in a specific "hardcoded" folder, but it's possible it is).

I've seen some suggestions to try running Elite (and obviously TrackIR) as Administrator. If nothing else works, you could give that a try.

For anybody with simular problems. This issue is solved.

I had to install TrackIR on the default installation path to get it working. The problem was, that ED doesn't find TrackIR, if the installation path of TrackIR contains folders with German umlauts.

In the end I have to point out, that support from ED developers was nonexistent. As I created a ticked, I got informed, that they don't give support to 3rd party products. As the problem was not TrackIR, but the ED developers wax of implementing a sluggish file path alogrythm, far away from Microsoft conventions, there point of view seems not to be very honourable or trustworthy at all.

So listen ED developers: As you don't support your faulty product, I'm not willing to buy any future addons or DLC.

Have fun.
