cant give it away.

So I was bored so thought load up on a bit of gold and head back to roots. Lhs 3447 or what ever it was called.

Jumping in to the area system names looked familiar. Lots of player sideys about. So took to the comms in sc. No response from players with an opening hi hows it going.

Jumped in to lhs 3447. Wow. Frame rate hit single figures. Choose another sys. No that's fine. Is it because of networking has some players with bad ping?

So I see a sidey drop from sc. I follow his wake not sure if he has been interdicted. Find sidey and vulture player looking at a few transport ships. Must have been the uss I was near.

After brief comms I finally get them to realise its not a trap as both are cagey. Mind you if a python dropping in on me so would I. Anyhow sidey had empty hold so dropped 4 t of gold and left him trying to workout how to scoop. he had a mate and felt my presence would put him off.

He was the only player to respond.

So back to res.

Maybe just pirate next time for a change.

Is probably why the response is very poor...to a new(ish) player in a sidey...'will he drop me off gold? will he blow me up? will he rod rob me?...decisions, decisions!!! better get outta here fast!'

need a 'chat to targeted' hotkey, if there isn't one already (is there one already?)

Are you kidding? It doesn't even go back to the same conversation you were having should you move out of the text box to.. Do anything at all. Just goes to that useless global chat thing every time (useless when th eperson you're talking to is 30k Ly away, and you are 25k Ly from civilisation...).

The name Elite Dangerous is not conducive to trust. And all the talk of griefing won't help either.

AFAIK most Sidey Pilots (especially the ones flying alone) won't even have their Comms properly setup yet - let alone know how to effectively use them.

Some might have tried after you hailed them - but taken longer to figure it out than you actually were available in SC as a valid Comm Target (it really isn't very intuitive and they're likely have no clue about /d /t /r tags used for comms anyway - those aren't in the descriptions at all as far as I know (!) ) .

So if I was a brand new Sidey Pilot right now and i.e. some Ship hailed me from behind in a busy SuperCruise instance - I probably as well couldn't respond in any reasonable time, even if my life depended on it.
(since for such a Situation those Comm tags are your only effective way to respond to a Direct Comm in Direct mode).

Erm, forgive the ignorance. Can you explain tags please.

As others have said, it might be that the new Sidewinder Commanders just couldn't figure out how to respond. The first time I was hailed I spent a panicked five minutes trying to work out how to answer (this was before the changes in 1.2) and couldn't make the cha t system work. It was my second hail who was kind enough to added a short how-to as their second message when their first didn't get a reply. I was then able to thank them and apologise for not responding sooner.

Have Fun,

I remember when I'd been playing for a couple of weeks I was trying to land at an outpost but didn't realise that there was a right direction and a wrong one because I'd always got there in the right direction before. Anyone it was busy and there were several players behind me waiting to land. I couldn't land and they were all talking to me but I had no idea how to reply. It's not ideal.

I figured communication may be the problem. Oh yeah trust as well. May try again. Just thought I would do something different until 1.3 comes.
