Can't launch odyssey

I'm having a terrible time trying to get this game to launch. I am trying to play it on Steam where I've bought both Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.

That is what the Launcher looks like for me. I seem to be unable to access the Odyssey launcher and there's other options missing from the bottom list such as Arena and Legacy Horizons.

Also when I launch Elite Dangerous: Horizons it fails to login and the game closes. I have checked if I have the Odyssey DLC checked in the game's Steam Properties and I do.

Steps I've taken so far:
-
Reboot my computer
- Restart Steam
- Reinstalled the game (twice)
- Launched the game through its folder instead of Steam
- Ran the game as an admin
- Verified game files in both Steam and the Launcher
- Un-linked my Steam and Frontier accounts then re-linked them
- Logged out in the launcher and logged back in
- Logged out machine in the launcher and logged back in and re-linked steam account

Please do not suggest that I link my steam and frontier accounts, the are linked. I'm saying this because I've been googling through this issue I'm having and that's everyone's first suggestion. It doesn't help me.

This is going to sound strange but clearing out the Edge Browser Cache fixes this for me... I dont even use Edge but somehow it messes with my ED installation and the game just won't load, it just keeps going back to the creen you have shown. I use CCLeaner and just clean all browsers and it works...

Not that strange. The Launcher is a barely disguised Internet Explorer window. Since IE doesn't exist anymore, any call to IE now starts up Edge in some sort of compatibility mode...

All hail hypnot...Microsoft!

just to make sure, Ed bought on Steam after a certain point in time (I think April 2019?) must be run through Steam. The login an verification does not work if you run the launcher standalone.

If the game and the launcher are updated correctly (which Steam should have done), you should see four entries: Odyssey, Horizons, Legacy Horizons and Legacy. For people who got the game directly from Frontier and run the Launcher standalone (not Steam or Epic), there were some problems with the launcher on update 14. Those were fixed by re-downloading the launcher from Frontier. But this should not apply to you as you have your game from Steam.

Other than that... no idea, sorry.

Just for completeness and so I can have a moan about Steam:

Plus: Elite Dangerous: Arena and Single Player Combat Training (it annoys me that Steam installs that 32-bit training monstrosity, if you run it then it can mess with your bindings and graphics - or at least it used to EDIT - Seems it doesn't actually install that by default any more, thank goodness.)
