Can't launch the non-VR version of the game anymore (Steam / Oculus CV1)

Hello everyone

I can't seem to launch Elite Dangerous without it loading up the Oculus software and trying to display to the Rift. Even if I close the Oculus software, SteamVR, and click "Play Elite: Dangerous Horizons" instead of the Play in VR option, it'll still boot up the Oculus software and display to the Rift.

Do I have to compeltely disconnect the damned thing to play the game on my monitor now?

Is it as simple as just turning the Rift off? I've had similar issues with other titles but unless the Rift is off (not yellow standby) the software will always try and fire up.

give EDDS a try (Elite Dangerous Display Switcher v0.4)
works fine for me

(in addition you can easily change the GUI color)

greetings

Thats some thread necro. Either go into the game and turn off the HMD option, use EDDS as mentioned above (throws up errors but still works) or use EDProfiler and let it create the graphics override file.

I have ED client/launcher, but noted recently Vive still asking for VR when not connected so just closed SteamVR/Vive program only and works fine. Loads and plays in window.

Very simple, either

Load game up in VR, go to graphics options and turn 3D off or

Switch off headset, close oculus home and boot game up. Go into options and turn 3D off

If you are using Steam, the problem is with Steam VR

Open Steam VR, go into settings, under Developer, disable "Start Steam VR when an application starts"

That setting makes Steam VR launch and take over any time a VR capable application launches
So no matter what you do to configure or re-configure Elite settings, it will still launch in VR every time unless you disable that setting or unplug the headset.
