Can't make selection with keyboard or mouse

Played Odyssey yesterday for about 8 hours (on and off) with no problems. In the middle of a mission at a settlement I was unable to select a response from my mission contact. I had just used a computer at that settlement to locate that contact. I exited the game and rebooted and went back to a computer terminal and could not use the mouse to make a selection. I equipped a weapon to make sure my mouse 1 worked and I could fire the weapon just fine. As a result, got attacked and killed and respawned at a station. At a computer terminal there I can't make a selection either. I tried rebinding a keyboard key as an auxilliary to Mouse 1 and that doesn't work in making a selection.

Mouse 1 works fine firing a weapon or going into Settings to change a keybind, but neither mouse nor keyboard works to make a selection now.

In addition to rebooting my computer, I've double checked that On Foot controls are set to Mouse and Keyboard, in Graphics settings for Mouse Curser I've tried both In-Game Panel Based and Render Window Based. That setting won't allow me to select OS Based even though 3D mode is off.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reply, but my game was already in fullscreen mode. However, I did find out what was wrong. Been out of the game for a couple of years and A LOT has changed. The keybinds are a little unintuitive. I had previously set up ship controls with a custom joystick/throttle. Now on foot controls are set up with mouse and keyboard. OK, that's all fine. But now there's a general control scheme. Why is that there? Anyway, it must've gotten switched from Custom joystick to mouse and keyboard, because that disabled selections with my mouse click. I was able to make selections with the "space" key. When I hopped into a ship for the first time in ages, none of my ship controls worked because the general scheme was set to mouse and keyboard (even though the ship controls are set to custom joystick)! Once I changed general scheme to custom joystick, everything worked perfectly.

I still don't understand why the general control scheme is needed. Nor do I understand why to mouse click doesn't work for selections when EVERYTHING is set to mouse and keyboard. Whew!
