Engineers Can't pick an experimental effect at the engineers

I upgraded my Corvette with several grade 5 engineering upgrades remotely and then went to Felicity Farseer to pick experimental effects for the modules she is able to engineer. I figured I could select the experimental effects for the modules she is able to engineer there and save some time. Apparently, it says server error and boots you to station services screen if you upgraded your module above what the engineer can do and pick an experimental effect. I.E. you can't put an experimental on your grade 5 DD thrusters at Felicity Farseer. I was able to put an experimental effect on my grade 5 FSD though.

Is this meant to be intended that way or is it just bugged? I thought I'd ask about that and would hope that it's just a bug as I rather not need to fly around all these places just to get experimental effects on all my grade 5 engineered modules.

Problem is that you can still select the experimental section but it gives an error if you select one and try to apply it. If anything shouldn't the experiment button be redded out if you can't apply it?

Yeh it's sort of bugged. You get a server error if you try to apply a modification to a G5 module, at an engineer that only does G3 for that module type.
Best to apply the effect you want at G1 level, the experimental mods don't scale to module grade.

Yeah, I'll do that from now on. Sadly, most of my ships are with grandfathered engineering upgrades so I got to fly them all to each major engineer anyways.

I figured you could since you could apply the experimental effects at any level and they have the same values no matter what, that it wouldn't have mattered if the engineer wasn't able to actually do that higher level upgrade or not. I.E. in the case of Felicity Farseer, do an experimental effect on grade 5 dirty drives when she can only do up to grade 3.

It's a shame you can't do that as it would save a lot of time of me having to go to all these engineers and such. Luckily I'm building my Corvette to fight Thargoids so it's not like I'll be going to be in the area Professor Palin is at anyways.
