Can’t press down on D-pad.

Can’t press down on D-Pad.

REPORTED ON: OCTOBER 12, 2022 10:40 AM
Can’t press down on D-Pad when I am in menu's after jumping. I also can’t press down on D-Pad when going in and landing at stations.

I am unsure if this is a problem with anyone else but I have busted my controller and had to throw it out after throwing it out of frustration.

I have noticed this is constantly happening and had not gone away.
I have had this issue for 2 weeks (maybe more) and it has inhibit my ability to quickly select stations.

I can confirm that the controller is not the problem as I first thought before breaking my old one.
My controller works fine with my other games that have me use my D-pad. But my problems occur in this game and this game alone.

(Updated note: this issue also effects the PlayStation as well, I’ve bought multiple controllers brand new and the issue still occurs when playing and has prevented me from starting Super cruise, but with using all the new controllers I’ve found an additional problem that when I am unable to press down on the D-Pad I can’t press down on D-pad even in the PlayStation itself. I’ve even used my other PlayStation and same problems occurs.
PlayStation Pro/ base both have this issue)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Set-1: Start the game and proceed to selection of modes.
Step-2: select any game mode (other then training and arena)
Step-3: fly to a station (or star system) then left or right panel. Try selecting anything with Down on the D-Pad.

That is all the steps. It seems to Accor when loading into areas and even can happen when pausing the game, when paused selecting down does not work and the wait time for it to fix is roughly 15-45 seconds and in some cases up to 1 minute(s) till D-Pad down is available.

(The issue is constant. I am also posting this here to help see if anyone else has this issue as well. So I copied my own report and I have pasted it here to see if anyone has this issue or not.)

This is actualy happening on the console version not PC as you pasted in the console section...

on playstation there all direct input controller was it officail brand controller......

Ive Used dual shock 4 and dual sense 1 never disables or malfunctions...

With the free transfer to PC more controller pads are being used... so compliance issues might be showing up...
We know Bluetooth compliance on PC has been crap. so people use USB cables to avoid BT issues...

Hoping you have not found another big issue... but PC users have been couch gaming more so if Cobra engine issue then should be more reported...
If cobra engine issue on console try a wire to controller can stop issues on the cobra engine...

Yes, I did post on console selection (I hope) because I play on PS4 and not PC. I am not using any other controller other then Sony made controllers from the Sony store itself. But I am unsure if you are trying to come of sarcastic or mean (I’m just unsure with how everything you have said is worded) but I am thankful that you have some help into what I can possibly do. But a wired controller is not possible with me since I am bedridden. So having a charger next to my bed and a wall mount for my TV and a stand for my PlayStation all at the foot of my bed helps me and with a wireless controller it makes it less of a hassle when playing games as well watching movies. Most wired controllers won’t reach that far (that’s what it was with the PS2/3) and I don’t think they make branded controllers for PS4 at the Sony store.

Get your partner to play with the USB cable connected and see if the issue goes away...
PC users have to use USB cables on PC as Fdev cobra game engine craps out using blue tooth even on PC...
If the issue goes away on USB cable, the issue is Compliance with blue tooth signals timing...
USB extension cables exist... To allow Controllers to work Via USB signals only from long distance .

Contollers have to support USB connections as they can fail Via bluetooth due to RF interference so if you move to PC you'll still going to have to use a wire as most Bluetooth controller cards crap out on support for DS4...
The title is dead, so updates are non-existent for it but nobody has had this error before in the lifetime of the title...

sounds information deficient

are all functions of the controller dead at the time this happens or just 1 function?

with not near enough info to make any kind of conclusion

I can say, if you are using a wireless controller and you have issues with delayed functions, often it is because of interference
and BT gets it really nice around game setups

remove all things that can interfere.
make sure no wireless devices are in the path of the controller to the receiver
don't keep ipads or phones within 3-4 feet of the controller or receiver

you can know the frequencies are all different(mostly), but they create a very strong field around them for about 4 feet.
more than enough to mess with each other.
and so many people today, especially at home have a phone or 2 or 3 or 4 an ipad or 2 or 3 ,,etc...
plus whatever else you have going on that transmits and receives constantly in the room or nearby.

many remotes and routers, mouse, keyboards allow you to change frequencies to help avoid overlap/interference.

fwiw, BT is easily defeated by just 1 phone too close to it....
brand new batteries can help a bit...

It’s just 1 function the entire time and it also glitches it so bad it carries over to the PlayStation itself after backing out it seems to be unable to go down at all even after a restart. And only way to fix it is if I go back into the game and actually spam it with opening menus then it works again after I close application. This game literally breaks only one button and it carries over to the PlayStation itself. This occurs on both of my systems and even with new controllers. None of my phones or keyboards get close to my controller when I play or set them aside. (I have always did this just because I didn’t want to knock them over) I just had to get back on the game load into a match and finagle the manus just to unlock the Down button so I can play war thunder.

I can play all my other games all day and night with out this issue, but when it comes to Elite Dangerous I have even system issues with my down button and have to result in going back into the game to try and fix it so I can close app and go about with a different game.

seems a bit like a buffer is filled and isn't being emptied
the kind of thing that happens when a connection is lost.

either way it is odd.
seems like there ought to be a way to clear the controller buffer without having to go back into the game. unplug it?

that aside, if it is the game, I would also not be too surprised.
the magic that has been done to certain menus and certain panels due to other inadequacies is a very irritating aspect of the game.

the launch menu from a station is the epitome of lets mess with the players.
I can't even count how many times it has selected launch, AFTER I select starport services.
and my fav is
cancel a docking request.
walk away for at least 2 minutes, the docking request spam from that command is visible in the local chat, if you are not in a menu. and you cannot count them.
I normally just fly away, rather than actually select cancel,
and there are others too.
every time you switch ships, go to the modules tab, so it can lock up for a second while it re-writes the incorrect modules display.
if you don't and you end up in a hectic battle and then need too, it will be much worse and you will take damage while the game re-draws an in-correct loadout.
seeing this several times a day is very irritating.

When I use my PlayStation app on my phone for menus it’s fine and doesn’t lock up. But yes I will try and find a wired controller that can reach me in bed (even though it’s a lot of hassles and inconvenient) thank you for helping.

Well I seem to be adapt at breaking games so bad it doesn’t want to work that well anymore even when I don’t mean to break it. I don’t understand why I am having the issues on both my PlayStations and yet haven’t heard anyone else have this issue. I might try deleting the game to reinstall it (hopefully I don’t lose my progress)

fwiw
I have used USB extension cables, some are very costly.
more headaches than audio/video cables
that's mostly powered ones.

regular ones are good, I would still be sure to use a powered hub if possible. to prevent damage to the console and to ensure it has the power and the signal it needs.

I found that a decent powered usb hub does just as well and is far cheaper, and will last longer.

Are you using an old pad?

Maybe that particular button is wearing out, I had something similar in this game (while I think the button sensitivity is particularly high in Elite, which is maybe why you don't see it in other games), but it went away when I got a new controller 🤔😯😀🤘

That’s what I thought but as I explained I have used some brand new controllers. I also deleted the game and it still is a problem when downloading it again. But not only that it’s not the controller that is the issue, it’s the game. Playing the other games I have it works just fine.

Checked or modified your in game controller bindings recently?

very good point
even new a button can be flakey and a test can show.

I have replaced mouse buttons 3 times because of this game.
buttons work, just intermittent making normal use no longer possible.
often 1 click goes out as 5 or more
to drag a window usually gets things under the path clicked and/or dragged instead

I solved my issue by buying a large bag of the best buttons you can get.
of my 3 mice for this game, only 1 is starting to show signs of not always cooperating. 6 years instead of factory 2 years.
