Can't progress Federal Career

I've been stuck at Lieutenant now for about 2 weeks (I play for a good few hours every day).

I'm still getting Fed invites to systems I unlocked ages ago. I've tried visiting those systems and completing missions. Also visiting various other systems to do jobs, both Fed controlled and independent but with Fed factions.

Still all I'm getting is the unobtainable mission to visit a system I've been to numerous times!

Anyone else have this problem?

Am I missing something obvious?

Ignore the repeated invites.

Have you been running around the same set of systems since you unlocked your last rank progression? That will halt or at least slow your progress as you've already 'made good' with the local sub-factions. Try changing locations by several systems and choose a new Fed aligned faction to run missions for. As your reputation with the faction increases, the odds of getting a new rank progression mission increase.

Also, note that as your rank gets higher, it takes more good will to trigger a rank progression. You may have to repeat the above more than once to get enough minor faction reputation to trigger a rank mission.

HTH

EDIT: one other thing that actually caught me out: If your next rank progression happens to be a cargo haul mission, and your ship is not equipped to handle any cargo (a Vulture or Viper with no cargo racks installed for instance), then your next rank up mission will show up in the 'Unavailable Missions' section... since you cannot ferry the cargo. Just FYI.

I've been deliberately working systems off track to ones that I have been to before. If the process genuinely just requires more work on my part then some sort of progress bar is sorely needed.

If it takes time I can accept that but some feedback is needed. I don't know whether I am on track (slowly) or there is a fault.

Logic tells me there is a fault. Proof being seeing repeated invites that I can't accept for permits I already have!

Some sort of progression bar somewhere in your reputation panel would completely solve that issue. At least you'd know if you're making any progress and how much you still have to work for your next rank. Not knowing where you stand is the killer in the current rank progression system...

I agree with this sentiment. That being said, when you complete some missions, there is a summary screen that shows what factions were affected by the mission, in what direction, and your level of progress.

Still, a reputation bar in the right hand panel when you look at a faction's details would be wonderful.

^^^ spot on. Rep given :)

Plenty of info for status and progress with major and minor factions but yet we are denied the equally if not more desirable info on career and rank progression. There must be a recording method used for this but bizarrely we are denied visibility of it.
