Can't rank up to Serf. Any suggestions?

Well I haven't been able to rank up.

I got a rank mission up to Outsider. Then for some reason the game gave me a mission for the rank of Knight (no idea why it offered Knight and not Serf), which I couldn't accept due to not having the ship requirements for the job.

And since then, nothing. So now I am stuck at Outsider.

Any suggestions?

How do you know it's a mission for the rank of "knight"? When I ranked up I only seen naval progression missions, they didn't say anything about ranks.

Try switching systems. I was writing about ranking up few weeks ago. Once you get naval progression mission, your best bet to get another one is to move to another system, build up your reputation with minor faction and wait until you get another naval progression mission.

Would just contact support, they have your current rank progression and can see what you should be by now. Sounds like you got bugged.

Ok, thanks for all the replies. I was hoping to rank up so I could go buy a clipper. I don't think I want to waste much more time on it.

Maybe I will go check a different system...and then file a bug report.

Wish I had been able to accept the Knight mission, would have been a nice short cut.

I spent quite some time yesterday ranking up to get the imperial ships. The first mission came up after only a few bouts of reputation-building missions with local factions. However it took an absolute age for the next promotion mission to pop up, I mean hours and hours of reputation-building missions. Finally after being allied with quite a few factions I got a "fetch me some stuff" mission which promoted me to serf. So I think you just have to keep grinding out missions to increase your rep with the locals / empire.

Now I have the two imperial ships sitting in a station and I think I might just dump the clipper, it performed so badly in it's first battle.
