Can't really figure out what hardpoints i want on my ASP.

Are mulitcannons totally worthless agains shields? Or do they fairly good?

Specially if i have 6 of them? 2 mediums and 4 small?

Or should i equippe only pulse and beams?

Rocket pods?

Railguns?

Plasma?

Maybe 2 medium Multi, and 4 beams? Or 4 small multi, and 2 Medium beams?

Pff, to much options..

Reddit was my friend.

Going to try 2 fixed or Gimballed Medium beams, and 4 gimballed small Multi

I went the opposite of this with 2 med/gim MC's and the rest small/gim beams.

Haven't been brave enough to do combat yet though, not a fan of my shields. Want to find better ones.

Now i use 5B shields, not enough credits for the 5A yet. But i do have 1 shield booster, and a shield cell bank..

Still not good enough to take on Pythons.. but i will get there..

6 x multis is hilarious ! plus it makes the targets scanner and controls go all wobbly :p

My "go to" setting when I had an Asp was 2 Medium Multi, and 4 Beams as there's the "ship size penalty" for the projectile weapons. If you go up against bigger craft they cause less damage than if you were in a craft the same size as your target.

My fav load out is two beams (or pulse) to take out the shields and 4 multicannons after that. The sound of the 4 cannons is awesome and shreds armour.

this penalty doesn't count for energy weapons? had no clue, this will surely make it much more easy to decide.

And i assume the beams or puls on the medium hardpoints?

lolz, 5C is what I was aiming for, but so far haven't run into a station selling them.

Too lazy to look it up though.

I busted hump Friday night and Saturday morning to get enough cash for an ASP, and after about 24 hrs I sold it and bought a DBX to haul/explore and a Viper to fight. The ASP handled like a brick in the mud so it didnt matter what guns I had on it, I never could get turned around enough to use them before I was toast. A day or two I should have enough to trade the Viper for a Vulture and I will run that and the DBX for a while to stockpile cash and build rep. The ASP was my first great 'buyers regret' in game.

Disclaimer: I do love my Asp despite not usually being a "Multi-role" kinda guy.

But I totally get what you're saying here. I actually think you need to give mad props to Frontier on this. There are much better combat ships out there and if the Asp excelled at combat too it would be overpowered.

You like your DBX? Funny story: I went station to station for days thinking I was going to buy the next DBX I saw. Got tired of looking and had the money for the Asp so I bought it instead. Then found a DBX at the first station I took my Asp to.

2: Turreted Class 2 Beam Lasers
4: Gimballed Class1 Multicannons

I find that the Beam Lasers on top will shoot at targets that are directly above me
Which is great for when I'm pitching up to try to catch those speedy ships

As a rule you should never just have one weapon type. My ASP has beams and multi canons configure how you see fit but remember more beams means more energy consumption, more pips to weapons, less fire time, slower speeds. Finding that sweet spot is key and beams are great against shields not best for hull damage

Well here I have to disagree.

I absolutely love the ASP, its a heavy yes, but not that brick you are claiming it is. Hauling, exploring, fighting. It all goes perfectly fine for me.

And now I'm looking for the best configuration to take on Anacondas' and Pythons'.

This is my first ship I won't sell I think. I will strip it sooner or later, but this baby will always be close.

What are your guys thoughts on moving up from a Cobra to an ASP combat wise?? Or should I hold on to the Cobra and save up 30 or 40 mil for one of the high end combat ships?

EDIT* Nevermind. I forgot about the Vulture. Looks like that may be my best option but I can't remember ever seeing one anywhere. Any tips on where to find a Vulture??

I do not own an ASP, so my opinion is based on how I have a viper set up. I went with half energy and half projectile weapons. I use the energy to strip the shields and the projectile to decimate the hull/armor. I know that a viper against a python (NPC) is outmatched, but when I'm sitting under the belly of it, blasting the power plant with the MC's, it doesn't end well for the python (NPC). If I got an Asp I would set it up 3 and 3. 1 medium energy and projectile weapon and 2 small energy and projectile. That way I could set up different fire setups. Might work terribly, but that's how I would try it.

yes, the asp is no fighter but

- did you upgrade your thrusters? and run in in an leightweight outfitting? because than it's agility or manouverability is not bad at all (and should superior the dbe).

That's actually a good idea i think.

Never thought of it this way.. gonna try it. thanks..
