Can't reliably plot route

Hi Cmdrs, all of a sudden I can't plot routes anymore, I keep getting these blue bits, when I get to it, computer says fuel exceeds jump range and I have to manually plot a route around it. Why is this happening? What settings have I changed to break it?

Be very, very careful with cone boosting if you're new to it, especially from white dwarfs. Their exclusion zone is huge relative to their cone size and if one grabs you you'll need all the luck in the world to escape it. Most errors lead to ship destruction. Even many seasoned explorers avoid white dwarfs, and if possible will abort the jump and route around one if they see it as the next destination. Most times the marginal boost of 1.5x isn't worth the risk anyway.

Neutron stars on the other hand are very useful. The boost multiplier of 4x is significant especially in a ship that's already tuned for maximum range, and their massive jets go way beyond their exclusion zones and so are much less hazardous. Just don't fall asleep in hyperspace when you're jumping towards one...

This infographic is semi-humorous but gives a good overview of one technique. You should quickly find your own most comfortable method. I favour skimming the edge of the cone for quick and elegant egress, but smashing straight through into the centre can be more exciting.

NB this requires a fuel scoop, which may seem egg-suckingly obvious but I made this exact mistake a couple of days ago when returning to the game for the first time in ages. Spent five minutes flying through the cones to no avail before realising my error.

Excellent tips, this does explain a few failed attempts, thanks. I didn't even think about the need of a fuel scoop, it explains my last failure.

Been there done that... guess we all do it at some time 😂 😂

I lost my first Conda to a white dwarf while attempting to boost from it. Scarred me for life. Won't go near the things now. I have them unchecked in my route planner so I don't accidentally plot through one!
