Can't seem to complete assasination missions for empire rank up.

So, I cannot defeat empire kill missions. I try and try, but hostiles in imperial clippers are to manuverable to make an attack with my viper viable and too kitted to make my cobra mkIII an option. Finally this morning I managed to whittle down ones shields and begin pounding it with my heavy cannons and torpedo pylon, but I can't destroy the FSD fast enough to stop it from jumping away! How do I do this?

Ask for help.
Get better ship.
I recommend using DumbFire Missiles once shields are down.

Please tell me, any ship you reccommend in particular? (I'm an explorer, I go out on 300-600Ly trips and then return the "edge of empire" to rank up once each time in the hopes of one day having enough rep and money to buy my own clipper.. Is their anywhere I could find a group of people working on the same mission who could help?

Instead of hammering the FSD, try to kill the power plant. That will usually go down faster than the FSD does, and when that goes, the ship is done.

The only way you might get the same mission as other people is by being in a group when it becomes available at the starport, and you're there at the same time. I've never actually been in a group with another player, so I'm not certain that each person doesn't end up with their own set of random missions when the BB loads. You might check out Mobius if you're looking for a PVE group, I get the impression that they're a fairly decent group to run with.

Killing those clippers in a Cobra can be done. It takes some work, but you can do it. Make sure you have countermeasures of some sort. Chaff helps if they're using turrets or gimbals. Make sure you're paying attention to power management. If you're putting all your power into weapons, shields will suffer. If you're all in on shields, your weapons suffer. If you're running all Multicannons, it's a little easier, since they don't drain the power or overheat as quickly. I used to run 4 gimballed MC and could kill the Clippers as long as they didn't manage to run and jump. Anacondas were a bit more of a challenge.

Viper, class 1 fixed beam or pulse lasers, your choice. Class 2 gimbaled multicannons. Subtarget power plant.

Viper with A thrusters is more than maneuverable enough.

Okay I'm going to give up this mission for awhile and go make money. ( I guess I can take the reputation hit for now). Then I'm coming back in the biggest ship I can find and blowing this Traitorous general out of my sky.

A Viper is more than enough. What does your viper look like? I can help you outfit for killing big ships.

I just started doing these again yesterday and am taking them out(in Viper) before they can jump. I have done 5-6 in past 2 days. Unofrtunately only a couple rank ups as I went down a rank(bug) after turning in one and some don't rank up after turn in.

Anyway, I am using Gimbaled beam for the 1's and gimbaled multi-canons for the 2's and they go down fairly quick.

You should never do more than one of the same type. It's not one rank per mission, each mission is specific to a given rank.

To max out, you will do smuggling, fetch, courier, assassination, combat, smuggling, fetch, courier, assassination, combat. You should never have more than one accepted at a time.

sure, I've sold my viper but I can rebuy, what did you have in mind? I'll write it down and plan out my revenge.

I use a Aspec Viper with Shield Cell Banks (at least two to be safe).
2x Fix BEAM (Medium)
2x Dumbfire Missiles (small).

Try to stay off his main axis/behind (side strafe a lot), bring down his shields rapidly and hammer on the missiles when in close range.

But honestly, if you see other players with combat vessels, do try to ask for help. I've helped a few cmdrs before myself.

They were alternating but this is the only mission that comes up anymore and is why I am back in my Viper. Hopefully the others start showing again?

Go to Odomazotz and do missions from there between Skogulumari.

I went from zero to hero within a week. I may have been lucky, but you might want to give it a try, some decent trades around those stations as well.

AND don't believe people who say move on when your Allied, I was here and I still got the top rank.

Never had any problem with my quad multicannon Viper... Once shield is down, FSD goes down quickly. I have also used hextuple of MC on my Asp, also works....

Took out an imperial clipper last night in my Cobra. 2 x pulse lasers to kill the shields then hammer with pulse lasers and 2 x multi cannons both at the same time.

Keep your distance to avoid getting hit.

Good luck!

I would basically use something like this, post-1.1:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30M,7u57u54ws4ws01Q3hA,314s4s4s3m4s5K3c,7Pc7fO

Some of the above is preference. I prefer fixed beams and gimbaled MCs, because at close range the gimbaled MCs can keep damage on a subsystem while I am maneuvering; I don't like fixed weapons when I am trying to hit a tiny target because it limits my motion too much. On beams, I use fixed because in general I find I aim better than the computer. If you don't, you could gimbal those too.

I try to get behind them (with A thrusters and capacitor + pips to engines you're more maneuverable) and burn down the shields with the beams. I stay in as close as I can for as long as I can. When shields collapse, I get in close and I pummel the power plant with MCs. Could also target thrusters, which are easier to hit.

Remember to set module power priorities so that your cargo hatch and FSD are in the highest # power group.

Also, if you don't need authority help, go into the right panel and turn Report Crimes Against Me off. It will prevent the cops from coming in, which can often make a target flee.
