Newcomer / Intro Can't sell recoverd cargo

I found and retrieved some lost cargo using the cargo scoop. I can see it in my hold but when I dock and try to sell it it does not appear as available to sell. Even though the item would normally be available to sell at that star port. I can sell other cargo but not that one and it's still takes up a cargo slot. Do I need to jump to another system? Is it seen as illegal goods even though it was just randomly found?

Yes anything recovered from space is classed as stolen, this has to be sold via a black market. If you get scanned whilst carrying it, you will end up getting fined twice the value your cargo will fetch on the black market. Its always best to scout out an outpost with a black market to sell recovered goods at, as outposts do not scan you, whereas coriolis and larger stations have active security forces that will try to scan you.
