Can't solve jittery headtracking on Vive..

So among the many issues with the Vive at the moment my base problem is that I can't get it to run without headtracking jitter. Everywhere I move it's skipping a ridiculous amount of frames and occasional flickering black bars. Where as this was fine before 2.1 hit live and even in the beta of 2.1.

I've tried everything now, changing all the settings to as low as it can be, turning it all up, turning off reprojection, turning on Direct Mode, turning off G-Sync (on my monitor in Nvidia settings). None of the combinations seem to solve anything. Strange thing is that it seems to render fine on the desktop window, smooth as can be, but in the headset things go mental.

I'm running the game on a GTX980, i5 3570k, 16GB RAM and from a SSD drive, it should at least suffice to run the game properly on the very lowest possible settings, but nothing of what I change seems to make a difference.. The Vive runs absolutely phenominal in every other game I have for it, including games like Project CARS, but it runs absolutely abysmal with Elite, the one game I really wanted to use VR for..

Sounds odd. I had some tracking problems originally which I solved by removing two pictures from the office walls that contained glass (ie reflective)

Yeah I thought it was something in the room first but all other games have perfect tracking. It seems like a performance thing but none of the settings fixes it.

Yeah but it's unclear what I can adjust in order to make the game run better :/

Tried a few things but it doesn't seem to have a big impact or at all.

Yer same problem here as soon as i move my head it jitters

And it is not a tracking problem im sad to say.

Vive doesn't need USB 3, I've heard some folk having issues with some USB 3 controllers, switching to USB 2 sorted it for them.

Apart from that, reflections as mentioned, also anything that might be emitting lasers or possible some light that might be confusing the headmount? Does it happen more often when facing a certain direction? What about in another room just to test?

Have you enabled the front facing camera? disable it if so

Do you have any bluetooth devices? Try ED with them turned off

USB 2 definitely

Have you tried resetting your play area when you're seated?

Did you update drivers recently - for your gfx card? Try rolling back?

I can't give sources for the above, but if you research around those points, you might find something that helps

Yep, I can check all those off ;)

Unfortunately none of it seemed to help. Problem just seems to be the game as it was fine back in beta and before 2.1. I'm just at a loss right now. Maybe a reinstall of my PC may be worth a try in the end.

Haven't tried another room with Elite yet but so far there shouldn't be any reason to as Elite is the only game where this seems to happen. I might go and try every single USB port next but so far it hasn't mattered yet.

I had the same issue on my 980ti/vive and only had the issue with Elite. after trying all sorts I finally resolved the issue by going into Geforce experience and using the optimize feature for ED - I couldnt tell you what it changed but it worked a charm for me and after that I could go in game and change the graphics settings to anything i wanted and the problem never returned.
