Can't start ED in VR

I had a problem with ED & SteamVR since the 1.3 runtime came out whereby when I change the graphics settings to enable my DK2; my 3 monitors would start making a high pitch noise (as if receiving a signal outside of the normal range) then my PC would force reboot. The refresh rate would always show 60hz and there was no option for 75hz since the DK2 is no longer detected as a secondary monitor.

Nothing I tried to fix this worked so I instead grabbed a key from the frontier website and installed ED using Oculus home last night. But when I run the game from Oculus home the initial frontier splash screen is shown on the DK2 but freezes everytime (there's usually a white egg timer displayed too), meanwhile the window that is mirrored to my desktop displays everything fine, the splash screen disappears and I can load my game and start flying.

Any ideas why the picture being sent to the DK2 would freeze on the first splash screen while the mirror windows functions perfectly?

My PC is bleeding edge and can run every VR demo / game perfectly, my drivers are all up to date and I have over 300 hours on ED using my DK2 (mostly on 0.5 runtime but I did use 0.8 on steam perfectly for a while. I just cannot work out why neither the steam version or oculus home version will let me run the game in VR.

Please help good people of the interwebs!! If anyone is able to help with either the Steam or OH problem I would very much appreciate it.

thanks for the reply, i'm pretty sure its enable but i'll have to check when I get home. I definitely ticked the box the first time I installed Oculus Home but I did recently move the oculus software to a larger hard drive so may have forgotten to retick it.

edit: yes it is allowing unknown sources

I can confirm that while the DK2's display is freezing on the frontier ident splash screen it is not the actual ident video causing the problem.

I renamed the ident video in \Oculus\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Movies which forced the game to skip the ident splash screen when starting, this time I just had a black screen on the DK2 with the Oculus Home egg-timer stuck in the bottom right of the display, again the window that is mirrored to my desktop displays the game loading fine and allows me to play the game, albeit in a tiny screen.
