Can't start elite via oculus home..

Got my oculus all set up and working, but having some issues with elite.

First off oculus insisted I had to install another copy of elite via their store (with the partner code from FD). But after downloading 14.72Gb of elite it won't start at all, clicking launch from oculus home gets the message "oops something went wrong.. try again later". If i manually navigate to the install directory it will launch, but only in standard non vr mode.

Any clue what I'm doing wrong?

Try this:
1. launch game from the Oculus desktop app by clicking on the menu (3 dots) and selecting 'start in desktop mode'
2. go into graphics options and select HMD headphones in the 3D option (let's hope that you see this in the menu)
3. exit game
4. close launcher
5. start the game in VR from the Oculus desktop app (hopefully!)

I'm not saying this will sort it but it's worth a shot.

Gave it a go but I get the same error, the 1st time I launch from the oculus app, it does start, but freezes on the elite dangerous load screen making me force quit the program. After that I just get the same error over and over. Currently installing elite via steam to try steam vr.

Ah sorted it. Still won't launch direct from the oculus app, but launching normally while the oculus program is running and selecting hmd headphones under the 3d menu seemed to work.... Now off to play with some settings :D

Thanks for the assist Cmdr o7

This what I do. I got the Rift over the summer and I think ED launched successfully one time from the home app. I don't even bother launching from the Steam menu either. I just click the shortcut in the desktop.

OP. I've had exactly the same problem for months. After several days of reading posts and trying loads of fixes, i gave up. Now, I just launch it from the desktop shortcut. Not sure if I'll buy another Rift in the future, might try Pimax 8K.

Only way I can get it to launch is by opening steam vr through oculus then elite through steam vr. Its handy as can do all this without monitor on. I do wonder if steam vr is using unnecessary ram so would prefer it to work from oculus

Only time I've had this issue is when first running from the Oculus library as it requires you to sign in and doesn't tell you. After that it's worked perfectly for me and racks me up loads of gifts in Oculus home for spending time in the rift :D

I have the same error. If you start it through Oculus home it gives you an error. I tried to start in Desktop mode, also an error. I deleted the game and reinstalled it through Oculus. Still wont run. I dont use Steam for the record. The only way to launch it, is directly clicking on the edlaunch.exe. It would be nice if somebody would take this seriously by now.

After a system re install last month I ran into this, the only way of launching was via the launcher hidden away in the oculus/software/frontier_developments folder, I then installed the launcher available from my downloadable products on the FD store and signed into that, for whatever reason that single step fixed whatever was failing on the oculus launcher side and it now works perfectly again. Uninstalled the FD launcher and it's still happily working.
