Can't store ship with cargo?

I am in Kappa Fornacis and had the wonderful idea of filling up my cargo with Onionhead to distribute through the galaxy, it is stocked slowly and that's ok, so I figured that I would have a second ship for combat while I slowly fill up my cobra.

But you can't store your ship with cargo in it's hold? I don't get it, they are storing my ship as it is, they shouldn't care what's in my cargo hold?

i really don't know myself. i wish i could too.
but what other ship do you use for combat other than cobra?? the viper??

It would be definitely another ship, doesn't matter which one because I don't like taking my main cobra into the fight because I always have some kind of illegal cargo I'm holding on to for missions and/or rare commodities, plus it's 100k for insurance if I get poppped. I would rather a throw away vessel that I wouldn't lose out so much if I get smashed.
