Newcomer / Intro Can’t target defense turrets

I’m hesitant to call this a bug as I’m pretty new’ish and figure it’s likely me doing something wrong...


On a Data Acquisition mission. Get to the base and defense turrets start shooting me. I can target them (see them on ship console) but none of my weapons will lock on. Plasma Accelrator and beam laser will dumb fire and hit all around the turret but do no damage. Missiles won’t even fire.

So I do zero damage and sit there while a single turret takes me out.

Ideas? I’ve left the planet and redropped in 4 times now and restarted the game twice.

In my experience you have to be pretty close to target a turret from a ship, longer range fixed weapons work better, or landing and shooting them (if you have to) with your SRV

Ship weapons don't auto lock on ground targets.

If you're more comfortable destroying ground stuff from air (I personally prefer SRV as it is more fun) I recommend equipping a fixed beam laser or dumbfire missiles.

That was it. I got right up on them super close and the ship weapons locked on the ground turrets. Thanks!

Glad you made it. I hate the Base Assaults, and never do them.
However, IIRC, Dumbfires are the weapon of choice. Rain hell down on the base, then kick through the ashes.
