Elite / Frontier Can't target for autopilot in FE2.

Hello, I'm new to this series. I'm playing Frontier Elite 2. I watched tutorial videos on how to play it. I've been trying to target stations in different systems from the star map so my ship can autopilot there, but it won't let me target anything. It's to my understanding that I should hit F10 or manually click the targeting icon, then click on where I want to autopilot. However, the icon is just never there.

I can still autopilot if I fly to the star system and then target the location outside of the star map, but that's more time consuming. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?

You're doing things the right way.

In Frontier : First Encounters, they introduced the icon for quick-selection of all stations and starports. In Frontier : Elite 2 (well, the PC version anyway) you had to go into the system map and navigate your way to whatever you wanted to target with autopilot.

I'm pretty sure you can only target objects in your local system.

Also, try learning to fly without autopilot as soon as possible - you'll probably travel using autopilot most of the time anyway, but it does come in handy sometimes.

press F2 untill you get to the 3d view of the system you're in. (dont do F2 F6 F10) the map should have a green background, not a red one(F2 F6 F10). *

* the red background 3d map is used to visualise a sytem when you have it focused on the galactic map.
it doesnt allow you to select a destination for autopilot(nor for hyperspace jump), even if you're in that system.

you can be at Barnard's Star, in front view mode, and if you want to look at what ross 154 looks like you can press F2, move the map to center it on Ross 154, it's also the way to set your hyperspace destination(check if you have enough hydrogen on the bottom left). a new icon will show up (F6) on the right side of your scanner, this will bring a 2d representation of the system you're focusing on (Ross 154) and you can check info about that system(imports/Exports, gov type...) and F10 brings you the 3d map of that system(still Ross 154).

Totally. My auto pilot broke down several times but no need to worry. I can pilot it all myself just as well. :) LOVE FE2
