Can't upgrade non-Steam version?

So I don't use the Steam version of the game, whenever I try to upgrade through the launcher it's just stuck at 'Preparing for update'..

Anyone else has this issue or know how to get around it?

I also have the non Steam version and I always wait till midnight to download because as of now, and as in every other update, the servers are under heavy load and it may cause that kind of problems. Is not you or the launcher, or either your non Steam version...it's the server and all people trying to download the game at once.

Be patient and try later is my best advice.

I switched to steam at the last update as mine got progressively slower over the years, steam is much quicker for me but if my kids play planet coaster I get kicked!!

Yeah going to re-install Steam version again because it's probably faster to download the whole thing over again instead of waiting for this launcher to get fixed..

I had my reasons that I did not want to use the Steam version but the Elite servers seem incapable of handling this kind of stuff properly.

Tried using family share or whatever that nifty feature is called on Steam? I think it lets you share your game library with another steam account. Works wonders in house. :)

Tried that multiple times and even rebooted my PC (if that magically fixed something) but nothing seems to work. I got in the same situation an hour or so before the patch hit Steam but then rebooted the launcher and didn't get the upgrade option again until after Steam got it.

My non Steam is upgrading.

Very, very slowly. Estimated at 5 days according to the launcher.:eek:

And now, 30 minutes.:)

I'm not using steam and have 5 mins left on the upgrade.


a couple of tips.

1. have you tried the alternate download option
2. Dont try to do over wireless - Im upgrading much faster since I moved my modem/router upstairs and put a cable in the back.

Wireless works fine for me, downloaded in a few minutes. Try coming out of the app and going back in. I didn't get the option to upgrade initially and that worked for me.

My launcher also takes a while to really start the upgrade after I click the button, but I just wait a while and it does start after a few minutes (5 or so I think). So, maybe just wait longer.

Also, I'm on wireless and it works fine for me. Got something like a 3.7 Mbps connection, which is pretty slow. On downloads I usually get a little over a gig an hour. This update only took a little over an hour which is awesome. Love the way Elite Dangerous updates: seems like it should take a lot longer than it actually does. I'm guessing that has something to do with the whole "syncing files" thing.
