Cant upgrade thrusters on cobra....to much mass. Help please.

How can i reduce mass for upgraded thrusters. I only have standard armour. And only a few other minor upgrades.

Every thruster option is unavailable due to exceeding hull s mass ??

It's not obvious, but you need to match the thruster class (1,2,3,etc) to the thruster bay size. In the Cobra's case that is a size 3 bay, so you have to find class 3 thrusters. Probably all the thrusters you see are class 1 or 2 which have a max tonnage way less than a Cobra has.

The class thing applies to all the major systems of a ship, other than weapons, cargo bays, and the like if you want optimal performance (or even performance at all).

Ahh ill try another station and check if its the incorrect class. Could well be. Last station i tried was the same though.

Im at a high tech station at the mo.

I am pretty sure cobra has class 4 thrusters, otherwise everything else is correct.

Generally I've found high population high-tech systems to have best selection of equipment. You can filter them out in galaxy map and then head for the nearest one to try your luck.

Thanks guys. Im pretty sure this will be it. Is there any where in particular i can go in search of better equipment?

As marsha11 said, high tech systems will carry the..high tech equipment, usually higher classes of equipment (like the Asp's class 6 shields, or class A items are "rarer" and are generally carried in hightech systems.

Since you didn't say what exactly you were trying to upgrade to, all I can say is most if not all of the 4 class thrusters should be generally available in non hightech systems.

have a look at upgrading your other components too; not to A class but something lighter than what you start with. anything i haven't upgraded to A class is usually upgraded to D class as that is a good compromise between weight and cost. even if they're not effecting the thrusters you can get, they will affect your jump range.

Personally I m very satisfied with the B upgrades on the Cobra. Only the P-distributor Must be an A grade part, and these Parts are very Common.

Cheers pal. Yea upgrading thusters. So as you say more likley ill find em in an non high tech system. Cheers

Don't forget that each station has it's own separate economy type. Open up the system map and click on each station to see it's economy info.

Be careful, you will significantly reduce your jump range with B components as they are heavy!

Within a numerical class:
Class A, C, and E typically all weigh the same
Class B is significantly heavier
Class D is the lightweight variant (preferred by explorers for most components)

Whoops! I just noticed I meant as Kalpa said, high tech systems have the "rare" equipment. I bet my post was a bit confusing to read.

So just to say it again, high tech systems will generally have everything you will need. But around the sidewinder-asp level, most systems should have all the parts. So if you can't find, say a A4 FSD, I'd just jump a few systems since it isn't that rare, but if you need a A6 FSD, I would go to the high tech systems.

You could think of this as more expensive = rarer, almost every station has a 5k class 1 pulse laser and class 2 multicannon, but not all have a turreted multicannon (which costs around 1.5million compared to 15k for the same class multicannon).

Hopefully this saved a bit of time wandering in space!
