Canyon Planets of Odyssey... Shared

With the ending of Elite Dangerous 3 on the... Horizon (internal chuckle), with the last update coming in 3 days. Elite Dangerous 4 (Odyssey 'base' and 'DLC') is likely to have a large influx of new and old players. Many will be losing their old favorite Canyon running - Hooning spots. Some of mine being Pomeche 2C, Achelous 8A, Ariel etc.. The debate on 'the better planet tech' has been argued to death, I'm hoping to avoid that and instead try to have a constructive contribution from all of you CMDR's who have started finding the 'New' Awesome spots.

'Stellar Screenshot's has focused on 'The Photographer' and their photography skills and has seen many amazing shots of awesome canyons, but most did not have 'locations' or availability of station for 'Rebuy' (yeah, I crash a lot). And some CMDR's have already posted some of their Odyssey-Canyon finds but were derailed by 'planet tech' debate. I'm hoping this can be a repository of Canyon-Planets.

Some of the benefits of the planets I mentioned was that the entire (or most of) the planet was a maze of canyons... anyone could fly in and have a good time wherever they touched down. Also they were in populated areas so many people could meet up and fly together. But because all of the planets in the Bubble are already marked as 'discovered' and 'Mapped by' We are missing some of the Gems in our own backyard (which I gave my theory on in quoted post below from this morning)
....phased out over the next few months, so if you enjoy canyon racing, best get that all out of your system now......
Canyon planets are here we just didn't find them yet...
Now the reason I know they are there is because in just the short amount of time I have been in Odyssey I have already found 1 planet that was entirely canyons... but they were not super deep or narrow... they were fun, maybe grade 2/5. I have also come across a couple grade 4/5 canyons about 8km deep and tight but they were rare and at random spots on the planet that I couldn't find when I went back. so being procedurally generated... if 8km deep tight canyons are generating and full planet canyon systems are generating... it's just a matter of time before we start finding the next Pomeche 2C's again.

I think their might be 'less' extreme planets, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them might be found with the new Hutton Orbital Truckers CG that just started.... I could be wrong but the only reason we're not seeing the Canyon hot-spots yet is because there hasn't been as much Odyssey exploration in the bubble. Although it is all completely 'brand new'... it is all already showing as discovered and fully mapped... even if you haven't been to a planet since horizons, the whole planet shows mapped/Blue as you approach now in Odyssey. Earlier Horizons had reason to go scan and examine Every planet cause they were getting their names on them.... so they flew in to examine their newly found planet. I'm not saying that there are no new Odyssey players examining... I'm saying almost Every early Horizons players was examining like crazy, tagging everything. A lot of these new Odyssey planets, showing fully mapped have actually never been visited by Any player Ever...

So please contribute, try to be positive or at least open about the new planet tech and let's all post some goodies
(I'm posting pics cause I don't know how to make good vids... and I'd like to show what I think would be helpful info... But you guys post whatever you think is good)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my first post I'm posting my favorite low-medium grade Canyon Planet that is central in the bubble (I think about 28LY from Shinrarta). It has about 6 settlements spread out so you can always have a nice meet-up spot in broad-day, night or sunset. I rate it a 2/5 or maybe 3/5 grade Canyon planet. 'Amazing' for newer pilots... 'Decent' for mid-game pilots... But you Buckyballers will get bored unless your in fully stripped down racers 700m/s or better, plus it's only 1 - 1.5km deep in most areas. Actually this planet is awesome for SRV races too...

I really hope a lot of people contribute so we can find the new Pomeche's of Odyssey.

FWIW, I think I've heard that the smaller the planet, the more geological deformation, and the larger the planet, the smoother the surface.
I plan to get on to a serious hunt for extreme Odyssey planets and will use your recommendation to help me. After the Azimuth Saga comes to a head on Tuesday (or Thursday) I think we are going to have a need for a few new human bubbles to emerge lol. Currently I plan to search main bubble, Maia (thargoid) bubble and Guardian bubble (never been to Colonia)... But I feel like I'm on a mission now.

I really wish fdev would alter 'First mapped by' to include 2 names... the legacy horizon mapper and the new Odyssey mapper. The planets are completely different now and they said this is their final form. I went out to the crystal shards planets last week and they were all blue with heat maps and all... I've never been to those new planets since Horizons. And before I get any hate, I have 11 Horizons full solar systems with about 165 planets with my name plastered all over them. I'm not interested in losing credit for them, but I certainly wouldn't mind sharing 'mapped by' credit. I'm sure fdev could figure out how to make sure the same person is not listed twice and it would give all the newer player incentive to go out and get their name on Bubble planets (I'm pretty sure 90-95% of the bubble has not had legit Odyssey surface mapping). The Hutton Orbital trucker CG will be the first real reason for people to even go to these New unseen planets already claimed 'mapped by'.

Find that terrain i need a playground
I messaged you in game a couple times, about a week or two ago, but I think you was AFK... I do have a new spot in the bubble that I wanted to show you... It's pretty awesome but the problem is the best area's that I've found so far is only on one side of the planet... and the planet day-cycle is 3 months... so the area is 1 1/2 month in sunlight. it's getting pretty close to sunset now (maybe only a couple weeks til it goes to the dark side). But when it is in daylight it's actually even better than Soontil. There's some areas that were in the dark when I found this place that I'm just starting to explore now. When you see me on just wing me and I'll show you the main spots.... My FC is there now for a while.

The system is Wolf 1060 Planet 5-C... There's a large dark patch where I've made several race tracks. It's similar to other canyon patches in Odyssey, except this particular patch has about 4 different types of terrain layered on top of each other at times, so it can create some challenging turns and very tight canyons.... There is normal Flat-top canyon style... Rough-top uneven style... Spikes that you usually see on flat ground, but here they are on the tops of 'Flat-tops'... and these 3 types are mapped into about 15 meteor craters on that Blue patch. Where the 3 combined terrains meet the folds and ridgelines of the craters is a lot of fun and can occasionally be just deep enough to get speed-locks... occasionally! (it's not Legacy-level fun... but it's good for fast ships). I often keep one of my fleet carriers there for rebuys (there is a station in system but it's about 1,000l/s away... my FC's are currently in other locations now, but there are often other carriers there).

Here is a lap on one of my tracks... but I'm still learning my FA-off skills so first lap is in my V4, but at the end of the vid I couldn't keep my V3 on track at all lol...
Plus I'm pretty high off the ground in this vid cause I was showing someone the layout (without crashing)... Should bee much lower to the deck.

Here's another perspective of that planet from SRV's...

You know the track has potential when the people tilt their heads with the ship while wathcing the video, but we need to go faster still!
