Wait what? Isn't this the equivalent of a war declaration? Did war break out? What were the names of the two ships?

Or is this on the beta server?

Looks funny... even in the age of sail ships fought each other at greater relative distances. They should throw over the grappling hooks :)

Then why is two capital ships fighting it out. The Factions rent it from the Empire and Federation. There has to be a reason. War?

It's a local faction versus another local faction, not Federation vs Empire.

Either way, they're still part of their respective navies (or at least the name of each ship leads me to believe so) which are part of the major faction's war forces. I would expect at least a Galnet article about this tonight. The Nevermore blunder made the news, and that was nothing compared to this.

Edit: checking the target information... there is indeed a faction mentioned there.... I'm confused.

Agree. How would it be possible in this futuristic Universe that capital Ships would fight this way... Ridiculous.

If the game were realistic, you'd never see who your were fighting, fighting would be across very long distances.

This might start a long disussion but...

Assuming that Space battles would be made with beams and missiles:
  1. Beams need energy. Capital Ships can load more energy than Fighters. Thus, it make sense to me that capital ships should fire less closer than fighters, but not very far to save energy.
  2. Missiles can be fired from long distance, but the farest they are fired, the easiest they can be avoided
  3. Capital Ships need some range to avoid collisions

Let's say that I can understand dogfight for fighters, and mid-range shooting for capital ships.

If anyone decides to join the battle, do tell how it goes. Joining the Fed side should be easier as the Interdictor can't aim lol. My ship is still there, will revisit tomorrow. Shut eye time...

This looks like an escalation into conflict like in the Prism system. Not open war, but a tussle over mining rights or similar.
