Capital ship battles - where?

I know this is an old topic but where on Earth can I find capital ship battles? I know that I should look in system maps for systems where there are conflicts between factions allied to either the Federation or Empire, but I can only see:
  1. systems allied with the Federation, or independent
  2. systems I have already been to in the galactic map, meaning I can't find out what other systems are like - am I meant to randomly fly around to every star in the game to learn about the system??
  3. in the bubble I see different power play blobs where the systems apparently belong to a given "power", but the factions inside the system seem to bear no relation to the "power" that controls the system?? I can look inside a blue blobby system and it's not all Empire-align systems, unless I am mistaken?? What's the point of power play if the systems in the blob don't align to the power???
  4. at the edges between blobs in the power play, I'd expect to see conflict systems between eg. Empire and Federation, but the systems appear absolutely fine and there's no contested systems
Have I misunderstood?? I am a noob after all

If anyone can point me to somewhere I can fly my Vulture in and enjoy a battle I would appreciate it

Ahhh super power capitals? e.g. Zachary Hudson's HQ system?

EDIT: So I am in Nanomam at the moment (ZH's HQ) and there's no conflict zones or anything so I cannot see where I would see any conflicts or capital ships in here.
Looks like I will have to fly across the stars into Empire space??

It's still highly random, best bet would be to find a system at war with Feds and Imps duking it out, and with High Intensity CZs, but this is quite hard to find...
Quickly skimming through EDDB and Inara, the Thereila system seems to be a good place to search, as it has two wars, including one between an Imperial Minor Faction and a Federal one...
Sudii also has Imp on Fed action, so that may work too...

Witch Head Nebula - in a couple of months - will probably be a good place to find Imp/Fed wars.
It will be a while.
The AC CZs are gone. Step one.
Then evacuations need to complete. Step two.
Then stations will need repair. Step three.
And THEN you might get some superpower action.

High intensity conflict zones and power play super power capitals to name a few locations. The fed one just looks like a scaled-up Corvette, the imperial one looks like it's from a completely different game. Both are actually really cool looking

FIlthymick's advice is more "how to find a capital ship" rather than "how to find two capital ships shooting at each other", which seems to me to be more what you are asking.

Here is where third-party tools are more helpful than the in-game information. Use Inara.cz's "nearest conflict" buttons to find wars that are close by to you; click on each system to find out who is fighting who. To find Federation-Empire wars (where capital ship battles are most likely), you need to go down to the Federation-EMpire border region, a plane roughly halfway between Sol and Achenar.

Powerplay is almost entirely sepaate from the actual political map of the Galaxy. The Powers are spheres of influence, not zones of control. So you can have Federal-aligned factions inside the Powerplay sphere of Mahon (Alliance) or one of the Imperial or Indie powers.

As Powerplay is currently written, the superpower alignment of a controlling minor faction matters far less than the government type the faction has (Democracy, Corporate, Anarchy, etc). Thus, if Hudson PowerPlayers want to do things to support Hudson, and there's a system where they have to choose between a Federal Democracy and an Imperial Corporate, they will choose the Imperial Corporate, because Hudson likes Corporates but is only neutral towards Democracies.

Just because waiting until the stations are repaired would be the sensible approach doesn't mean the superpowers will do that.

The Alliance captured Karian Vision off the Empire on the day the Thargoids set fire to it, after all.

I haven't seen one of those for almost two years, I believe. Which is sad, because the entry animation (and the sound!) is quite impressive.

Found one! Method:
  1. Using the galaxy map, I changed it to show stars where they are "at war".
  2. Heading down from Federation to Empire space (close to the boundary), I came across the Semali system which shows the state being "at war".
  3. Jumping in and looking at the system map, the factions in there are shown to have allegiances for the Federation and the Empire.
  4. I headed for the nearest Conflict Zone of High Intensity, and hanging around for a bit a starship jumps in.
I haven't seen a second starship jumping in yet but will try another conflict zone later.

Also bought an Imperial Eagle whilst down here. Much less like flying a fragile Kinder Surprise than the normal Eagle. Will have to transfer a beefier ship in for my feeble piloting skills to be able to survive these conflict zones though - not enough upgrades on this Eagle yet.

Hopefully this helps someone else come across these, as they are a lot of fun.
