Capital Ship Lore

Is there anywhere that explains more about the capital ships of Elite?

I was wondering about the below:
- What FTL system do they use? (Clearly not a FSD of any kind).
- How far can they jump? How often?
- What weapons do they have?
- Why don't they have shields?
- How many cap ships do the Feds and Imps have?

I'm just having trouble working out what their place in the universe is beyond being cool to see in CZ.

I'm just having trouble working out what their place in the universe is beyond being cool to see in CZ.

- I think they use a good'ol jump drive, as it was used in the older Elites. Capital ships designs are very old I think.
- No idea, but considering they can still jump with all their heat exhaust destroyed, I think the ship is able to jump whenever it wants.
- BIG GUNZ :D Look at your subsystems panel while targeting a Capital ship, you'll see all of their weapons (broadside cannons, etc...).
- The shield generator able to cover a Capital ship would be massive in size and in energy consumption. Besides, their hull is very stronk and their sheer firepower can protect them from many things, so I don't think they need shields. Also, they couldn't launch close range fighters if they had shields.
- No idea about the numbers, but considering each Imperial Senator has its personal fleet, I wouldn't be surprised if both sides had a few thousand of Capital ships. They are both powerful galactic powers.
