Community Event / Creation Capital Ship - Sol

Just found and navigated to 'Capital Ship' in Sol, hanging over Earth. It's a massive, half-finished battle ship, called FNS Damocles. Looks abandoned. It's not on the system map, but it's on the Locations in your scanner. Took a few piccies (attached).

Is Earth going to war? Who with? Why is it abandoned. It's so big (2-3 kms, I'd estimate), I could fly down inside it. Reminded me of the death star sequence. It had selectable laser turrets and heat relays, presumably so you can aim at them. Very cool.

Anyone else noticed this? It appears to be hanging over the Himalayas, I think, or thereabouts.

I've stopped off to check out the Capital Ship as well orbiting Earth, don't know why you say half finished and abandoned though? Looks complete and fully operational to me, just sitting in geostationary orbit as it guards the Earth. It's probably the flagship of Federation capital ships, stationed at Earth as the local military presence and patrolling Earth's "port" as such.

Hate to revive a dead thread but remember from the Capital Ship Battle video, the Federal Naval Ship Damocles was the one under attack?
(Side note, the current ship stationed over Earth is the FNS Trander.

I went right down it's throat! There are two what look like docking bays on the ship, one I accessed by going to the exact front of the ship and going 'inside' the front, right to the end, there is what seems to be a metal door there, there is exactly the same thing on the top side of the ship, I too daren't fire at it either!!! After giving the ship a good looking over I left it alone.

I am not sure about this anymore (where it was) but there is a second capital ship in orbit around a planet somewhere in Beetrix, or in one of the surrounding systems. Since i was in something blingy and didnt want to see it blow up i didnt check it out.

I went back, went down its throat again to the inside docking bay, the moment to deployed my hardpoints the Capital Ship did the same, I aimed at the metal doors and started firing, within seconds I was blown to bits. It was quite good though as I found myself floating above planet earth with nothing around me, I was using my DK2 Rift so the 3D effect was amazing, looking behind me I could see the capital ship. I took in the view for 5 minutes or so before restarting the game, after all its not very often you get to see the earth from such a vantage point.
Before going in there I noticed that are various parts of the ship have what look like targeting points, my guess would be that if enough commanders got together and all blasted the ship at the same time it might create one hell of a battle that could see the destruction of the ship, any takers? Count me out!

I'm high ranking federation and had no hard points deployed.

To answer you, Bushstar. You got too close. Don't get close to any capital ship. Their security is somewhat higher than normal ships.
