Capital ship, why oh why :( Can they even be destroyed yet?

So finally had a Capital Ship drop in on me in a Combat Zone. After spending close to 45m, I had it down to 52% Hull, 95% modules destroyed (power was first :p)

I ran out of my canon ammo but kept at it between the endless wings of NPC Imperial scum. Finally still with over 90% hull on my ship I made the mistake of shooting one of my own; I was trying to target a sub system visually on the capital ship and inadvertently gave one of my own a tickle.. With the entire battlefield now against me I had to jump out...

You can imagine my great disdain and frustration at my recklessness after spending so much time trying to take this thing out.

So the real question is, can these ships even be taken out? I couldnt find any recent youtube footage? Early reports suggested you can't... please tell me this isnt so?!

Yeah you can just shoot out the heat panels and they zip out via a jump.(takes like 2 minutes) However you cannot destroy them through hull damage.

Wow that sucks, glad I didnt waste another 40 mins getting hulls to 0% :( I was expecting a massive Kaboom and nice $5,000,000 in the kitty for the trouble.. =( What a missed opportunity hope they address this soon!

I don't think we'll ever be able to actually destroy them.

I'd imagine that once their hull reaches a certain point, they'd flee. They're just a bit too expensive for the Federation/Empire to allow them to be destroyed in battle.

Capital ships aren't even able to destroy each other, as one side will route before allowing that to happen.

Given that the Federation and Empire only appear to own eight each of the things (at least, that's judging by the number of different names given to them one sees about) and several of those are parked permanently in orbit in certain locations, I find it highly unlikely that they'll ever let us blow one of them up. Many have tried; all have failed. Even getting it to 0% hull doesn't blow it up.

I think you earn 50,000 credits for making one run away, though. Which may not sound like much, but it's better than the zero credits you get for making a smaller ship run away.

It's actually 150,000 credits now.

Still a pants payment for routing a Capital of all things.

I did manage to get myself wedged in a recess on a Federation capital ship. I kept plugging away with my lasers and the hull was steadily going down (but very slowly). Got it down to 84% before being destroyed. Don't know how far you have to take it before they will run though.

As an Alliance supporter it is a bit annoying that the Federation and the Empire can have a capital ship in a HICZ when fighting us, but we don't have one to fight back with :(

You say that!
Try having one on your side in a conflict zone kills everything I had to change my weapon loadout just to get last shot in and earn some combat bonds. Needed to win the conflict, so kept going back making 1.5Mcr per visit (getting on for the hour).

Hey if I ever see you on the opposite side, and we are supported by a capital ship - assume quadruple that for you to send the blasted thing away, before we get down to the more entertaining and messy business of who "owns" the conflict zone :)

Cheers
Simon

Witch what? you need huge torpedos or a tactical nuke.

Did they change that in 1.5? I routed one for the first time in 1.4 and received 50k.
I'd be fine with 50k per heat sink considering they're quite durable and usually under turret protection and killing a python takes less effort while paying better.

I've used a missile Viper and trench ran along its spinal axis. With the reload now it should work even better now. Missiles do good damage against them panels. I used dumb ones.

And that is the most [redacted] mechanic ever! You should not even be able to get close enough after you show aggression towards the capital ship.
I find this completely unrealistic and utterly wrong. Did I say its also silly?

Confused - I didn't think it was possible to have your own side turn on you for friendly fire? It's certainly never happened for me before.

Did you have the faction selected?

What is even sillier is that they have a massive design flaw. You can literally fly inside them and take out their power generator (so they can't shoot back) and the NPC waves can't touch you. Even then they are easy to destroy and are not infinite either (about 5 or 6 waves only I think the last time I did it).

What I find even sillier is that even though their power generators are down they can still jump out of there (cool effect though - wish our jump effect was like that). Where is the power coming from for that??

As said. ATM you cannot destroy them. You can only dismiss them. Personally I don't think that's a bad idea for the time being. Otherwise we would have 0 capital ships left by the end of the week.

Capacitors. Charged up just for that emergency reason.

I think they should be destructible, but also much more powerful. Their guns are very weak.
They should be very difficult to destroy, not just because of their own power, but because they move in fleets.
Attacking one on your own should be suicide for sure.
Do they even have shields? I can't remember. They must have...

These capital ships should fly in fleets with other military capital ships of all kinds, like destroyers, battleships, pure carriers, cruisers, but also frigates tankers, medical ships etc.

Currently there are no other npc only military capitals in the game and I think they should be added.
