I had seen tons of negativity about this on youtube for the past several weeks (before the darn thing was even out). Ignored all of it. Went to go see it this evening.

The beginning was a little hard to figure out (you'll "get it" later on in the movie so I won't spoil it - just stick with it), but otherwise, found it enjoyable, a few laughs here and there, takes place earlier in the time line so expect to see a beige PC running Windows 95 on it. Also had Stan Lee's last cameo appearance in it.

As usual, if you go, stay after the first set of credits. I didn't stay to see if there was another teaser at the end of the full credits since the call of nature was too strong to ignore.

I gave it a [up]

First, it wasn't Stan Lee's last cameo. Apparently it's his second to last one filmed, with the last filmed cameo being Endgame, but there's no reason why they can't put a reference to Stan Lee in every Marvel film going forward, say a picture on a wall or two characters called Stan and Lee ... for example.

All I'm going to say on the negativity is that Disney and Brie only have themselves to blame.

The film itself though is an ok film, not the worst film ever, but not great either. It tries too hard to get certain things across, like Blockbuster just to go "Hey this is set in the 90's". Terminator 2 was set in the 90's but you'd be hard pressed to find any in-your-face 90's reference. Some of the music choices are deliberate and the main character is too Mary Sue for my liking.

I can't say I'm liking Captain Marvel, personally, and when I get my hands on Endgame, I may edit her out of it, and hope the film still makes sense.

Well, in my humble opinion it sucks, but that is just me....

If you don't know, (after you watched it) I can't help you :) Ghostbusters anyone?

I haven't watched it, as I generally hold the opinion that most/all super hero movies cater to the lowest common denominator when it comes to artistic appreciation (they suck, in other words). I just noticed that this particular superhero movie seemed to be drawing a lot of criticism pre-release from the people who don't share my artistic sensibilities and I wondered why all the hate? What does this movie do so badly that all the other movies in the genre do so right?

Shazam is the real Captain Marvel!
How many times did they have to reboot the Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel comics, because nobody bought them?
Captain Marvel, my foot!
All I want is a Punisher hard-R movie with Jon Bernthal and I really don't care about that blonde social justice twerp in a Captain Marvel costume.

Feminine character got the fanbois/misogynists panties in a knot.

Like when Dark Tower had the gonads to make Roland a strong black man lol

Can't we have both?
Yes to the Punisher of course.

Well, it was a bad movie, to begin with, tho Idris Elbas acting surely wasn't the problem in this crap movie.
But it's always easier to cry "misogyni" than to admit that it was simply a bad movie with a bad script, the same goes for Ghostbusters 2016, it was a bad movie. End of story.

Did people really use the casting choice as a means to blast the movie? Sad if true. My own problem with the Dark Tower was that Hollywood shoehorned an epic 8-novel series into a cheesy 90 minute action movie script. I'm so tired of that. Incidentally, I hold people who can't get enough superhero movies responsible for that downward trend.

It is possible I assume that the huge neg reviews before it even was dropped was due to the Shazam faction. I don't know much about Marvel.

I'd like to see flicks about Kandor or Bizarros lol

True about the DT movie Jason, Still it was better than nothing. Steve liked it.
I have high hopes for the new Dune and would love to see some Moorcock films or the other Herbert books as well

Feminine character isn't the problem and you know it. You don't have to hate men to champion women. If your comments were even remotely true, then Wonder Woman would have flopped. Bottom line is, Brie Larson is a man hater and some of us take issue with that. If a man had said what she said about females, he'd be called a misogynists. Meanwhile beta boys and fem are so quick to call anyone a misogynists. She's so blinded by her hate of men, she can't see the irony or hypocrisy of her own comments.

What did Brie Larson say?
