Ok let me start by telling you why i picked the title Archon is suppose to be this bad ass pirate / peddler of illegal goods and slavery that is what i get from looking at him and looking at his ratings. Then you look at his play style during the power play and where is the piracy where is the combat? Captain Pugwash has seen more action than this guy.
No but for real the reason he is at the bottom of the power play is because he plays nothing like he is described i mean damn Zemina is more pirate like than Delaine, going into his stages for power play:-
* Preparation - Combat? where is the combat you are turned from a pirate to a pizza delivery boy, go take contraband to this sector.
What is wrong with go to this sector and interrupt supply to the sector by piracy and stealing cargo and turning it in at the nearest controlled sector for cc? or having special ships you have to interdict and destroy but not before you have stolen the documents on board this to me is more pirate like.
Sun Tzu said - Poverty of the State exchequer causes an army to be maintained by contributions from a distance. Contributing to maintain an army at a distance causes the people to be impoverished.
*Expansion - so this leads onto the stuff you have just sourced from the supply lines of this zone you deliver it back to them when they have hit the point of poverty unable to for-fill everyday stuff because of 0 supplies and you come in with a feeding hand and they are all very grateful and fall at your feet, Allowing you to gain a foothold of power and influence in the sector. This brings you to the control aspect.
* Control - get yourself out there and source more supplies for the sector bringing it from poverty to a bustling illegal trade hub whilst this works in 2 ways it allows you to regulate the trade coming in and out of your system whilst also making you look like a good choice for president of the world.
Now to me this seems a little more in-line with what a pirate / goods peddler should be i have been with Archon for 2 weeks now and i have done each of the steps 1 time only because its boring and not what i expected of a pirate but i stay with him because i am a smuggler and collector of unwanted good and his bonuses actually mean something to me.
Now this is my opinion and everyone has their s, people may agree with me or may not but thanks for reading anyway.
Just for info i have played this game since the very first release of elite i had it on the BBC Micro and loved the game that much i bought it for my ZX Spectrum so the game is very close to my heart indeed.
