The game will have an inbuilt log. (DDF Archives suggest there will)

Blog is fine IMO ... Facebook - *sigh* - terrible information leeching parasitic site.

A blog would be better, as you could skin it, and it be independent of the evil Facebook.... but.... You could set up a Facebook account as your character in game, and post in the first person.

Any free and easy Web tools that we could use. I was just going to use my android phone. Folk don't seem to like face book but I'm tempted... mainly because of the time line

If it's blogging, then wordpress is pretty flexible and free (I've used this myself, although the blog I had (relating to some software dev) has since been deleted).

I paid for site hosting (I have my own domain) but there might be wholly free options that I'm not aware of.

Wordpress maybe? Popular blog platform with all the features that'll you're likely to need and more. Unless you want to set it up on your own host with your own domain name it's completely free over at wordpress.com.

hopefully it keeps track of who why and where attacks or trade took place.
with the possibility to ad notes.

and a search engine wouldn't be to much luxury to it either.
