Guide / Tutorial Career Building: How to earn credits by Combat

CZ's are definitely a fun ride, and the heavy volume of ships always keeps you on your feet and at attention. A couple of tips:

1. Remember that a Low CZ will have lower level combatants, which means their ships will not be as well equipped, and they also have a lower volume of ships. Remember however that even the lowbie enemy pilots will have extensive hull reinforcement compared to those ships that you may find in an RES.

Well that's a good tip. I blew up my Python 3 times yesterday. THREE TIMES. Almost completely tapped me out... had to call in my Vulture before I wasn't going to be able to cover the insurance cost anymore. So maybe spending time in Low CZs might be a thing...

Of course, I did learn a lot this way about how to effectively retreat and avoid getting swarmed, so I got that going for me.

2. Remember to visit each of the stations and or outposts in the system and based upon whichever faction you decide to allign yourself in a CZ, pick up as many missions as you can find to destroy their enemy ships. While you can earn a decent amount of bonds just by participating in a CZ, the missions payoffs can be huge, and in the tens of millions if you pick up the missions to destroy the enemy ships in a CZ.

Yeah I noticed that, and also that as you go the missions seem to be getting bigger and bigger in value (and target kills).

I appreciate your support, and plan to continue to build upon the guide. Send some Rep my way if you like what you read, and check back for updates periodically.

Fly safe, and have fun!

Thanks man... And I didn't even notice that Rep button - I'll do that!

It is my pleasure. Python can be a strong ship for a CZ, but yes, your higher signature will definitely draw more fire your way. I only use my Corvette and FDL in CZs if I am looking for volume kills. Even though my Gunship is a beast, it just doesn't have the maneuvering capability to stay frosty enough in CZs. I normally draw a ton of fire in the Corvette. The FDL can fly under the radar of the other ships a little more proficiently. However, when I really want to fly more below the radar of the mob in a CZ, I use my Imperial Courier, yet that is more for the pleasure of the experience ,because that ship is not a volume killer.

Based upon your explanation of your experience in the CZ, you should try this to help keep you free from the mob attacks. Look at your radar to locate and then travel to segments of the war zone where you have two or three ally ships attacking one enemy ship. Go to each of those locations and destroy the outnumbered enemy ships. That will free up those additional ally ships, which they will then move towards the mob of ships or next grouping of ships. Once you free up all of the straggler ally ships, you will have a larger concentration of ally ships to handle the mob. This will help tip the scale of the volume of ships in the zone in your favor. See if that helps you gain some control over the mobs.

Rep to you for this guide. I´m trying to get a grip on combat, made it to ´competent´ and I´m training my skills with an FDL in a HAZREZ at HIP 43477 ( 3,7 Ls from Hilbertson Station, outfitting and restocking included..) It´s an anarchy system, so I don´t have to bother about whom and how I club ( or get clubbed ). So far everything is okay, I get bounties sometimes and get smashed at other times. What I don´t quite understand is: I earned bounties ( values show off in light blue ). After that I had a fight, which I could just escape somewhat bruised ( 60% hull ), but otherwise intact. Reached the station, but when I tried to cash in my bounty vouchers, there was nothing to be found. I mean, I wasn´t destroyed.. Where have the bounties gone? I would appreciate, if someone gave me a clue to what´s happening there, thx in advance o7

It's great to hear that the guide has helped you out with your combat focused career. In my opinion, it is the most immersive and engaging way to earn credits, and with the right proficiency, the most efficient means to earn credits. Thank you for the Rep; I shot some your way to reciprocate, and always feel free to ask me questions about the combat in game, happy to help.

To answer your question, that is weird. If you picked up a bounty in the system, and went to redeem your bounty in that same system, then it should have populated in the Contact's tab. The only answer I have is either, (a) if you lost connection at any point between the time you received the bounty and your trip to the station, the bounty may have been wiped from memory - I had that happen in CZ's losing bonds because I lost communication with the Transaction or Match Making Server; (b) if you attempt to redeem the bounty at a station in another system, while you might redeem major faction bounties, you will only redeem minor faction bounties if they have a presence in the system you redeem the bounty; (c) it could have been a bug, which has occurred from time to time during my play in Elite. You might want to post a ticket in the Bug Forum about the occurrence, including the bounty redemption amount lost. Make sure you provide as much specific detail as you can; or (d) there may have been a lag in the connection when you selected the Contacts tab in the station if you tried to redeem the bounty in the system where you earned the bounty. This may have caused the redemption of the bounties not to populate on screen. If that situation were to arise again, simply try exiting the station menu, then reselecting the station menu from the launch menu. If that does not work, try performing a soft re-log from the menu, and switch the log in to Solo if you were in Open, or Open if you were in Solo, or Solo or Open if you were in Private Group. Revisit the Contact's tab and see if the bounties repopulate.

If (b) or (d) is the situation in your case, you merely have to go back to the system and visit a station within the system you received the bounty voucher to collect the bounty. If the bounties are still showing in your Transaction tab, try going back to the station in the system where you received the bounty voucher and try to redeem.

Hi again PhoenicianSon

Thanks for this guide - Ive been using it to great success. Combat rank is climbing and even in poor RES sites (still High Intensity, but what I suspect are self-found low volume RES, and indeed failing to get the "big ship" spawns but mixed or small ships) Im managing about 6mil / hr. I can make about 10mil/45mins in my Type 9 so Im trying to break this target as the Type 9 AB trading is very similar to having your teeth pulled out. Only less fun.

So I took some more of your advice and headed out to Exioce. But now Im confused. In your list of RES systems you said that you farmed at "3. Exioce A4 B Ring HRES"

When Im in Exioce, I cannot find a planer called A4. There is howerver a gas gian called just 4.
i figures (through common sense) that this was the RES you meant but was then further confused to see that the only High Intensity RES at Exioce 4 is on the A ring, not the B ring as you said.

Am I just in the wrong place?

Ill go try the RES out at Exioce 4, ring B and hope you can clear this lil mystery up. (to further confuse matters there is an Exioce 4A, but thats a rocky body orbiting Exioce 4 and it doesnt have rings lol).

Methy
