Cargo bays and equipment in general.

Can someone tell me please, approximately how many stations should I dock at in sequence to expect to find a particular upgrade I'm looking for? I've been all over the place and can't find a cargo bay over 4. An 8 would be good. 2 8's fantastic. A 16 unbelievable.

There's a bit of an issue in game isn't there - I expect it's been aired here many times over beta. It seems there's no logic to when and where you can find these things, or anything come to think of it. I'm sure someone knows, perhaps a dev.

Can anyone explain it to me?

Just out of interest, how do I find a high-tech, high-population system? Is it just a question of randomly clicking on stars until you find one or is there a way of searching for one in the UI?

There is normally one relatively nearby the start areas but one good way of finding more would be to uncheck everything except "technology" in the galaxy map and you'll see export lines coming from the major ones. Maybe just check stuff like robotics that are generally only found at High Tech systems.

First of all, what ship you are flying and what is the class of your internal modules? I never have problems with finding those, my guess is that your ship is simply not capable of using them.

It's a Cobra and despite having played the game for a few weeks now I'm still not sure what the class of the internal modules has to be, or what those numbers actually mean. It's not clear in the UI, though I expect it's perfectly clear on a blog, guide or post somewhere on the internets.

Asellus Primus is nearby those, try that.

At Beagle 2 Landing the biggest is an E2, which is 4. And is it just me or is this whole system hideous? Complete re-think needed in a future release.

You only get the offer of buying the bigger cargo rack, if it fits your comparment module. Therefore, if you have your class 3 comparments taken by some other modules (like shields, refineries or scanners).

Ah, you've nailed it. That's the problem.

I'm not a particularly stupid example of the gamer genre, but I do find it all somewhat baffling.

Finding systems is easy:

- Deactivate every economy type you are NOT looking for.
- Then activate the 'population' filter and lower the upper limit using the slider. All system icons (circles) will grow very large and it is really easy to spot them at one glance.
- Now, if you want to, raise the lower limit. If the lower limit slider reaches the upper limit slider, he will drag him to bigger vallues. As a consequence, more and more systems will "disappear" from the map and only the really high population systems will remain visible.

You can display systems by economy and size on the navigation page.

Dude, are sure youre clicking the class 3 comparment? I mean i just logged in and in my ASP, i could buy any size of cargo racks in the system i was (Aulin) and i dont remember having problems in finding those, ever. Also, the station will NOT even show you the modules that are oversized for the compartment...

Read up Raf. That was the problem. It's just not really obvious. I would prefer some kind of pictorial representation of my ship compartment layout, clicking a slot showing what's available for it. That would be more intuitive than big list of hell I think.

Well, did you get the modules or not? Was the class of the module the problem? Cause we can always help and talk about the stuff on the forums like we do now. Class 2 comparment= 4 ton cargo rack, class 3 compartment= 8 ton cargo rack, class 4 compartment= 16 ton cargo rack. There are small numbers next to every compartment/module in the outfit screen.

Have you played in the beta? Because it was really nasty back then, i certainly see an improvement. I have no doubt it will improve further.

Edit: ah, you edited your post, didnt notice. Glad i could help.

OP... Yup it is baffling until you get the hang of the logic of it all. Keep asking the questions and you will get there!

When it comes to cargo racks the maximum you can fit is 2^[Max class of your internal compartment]. The Cobra Mk III has Class 4/Class 2 Internal Compartments:

  • Class 4 ~ 2^4 = 16T
  • Class 2 ~ 2^2 = 4T

For other equipment you should look for equipment at the highest class that you can fit in your internal compartment (the number on the bottom right). The quality of that equipment is also ranked alphabetically (A-F for most items) with A being the best that credits can buy.
