Cargo Capacity

I loved Frontier, but the most terrible moment in Frontier was when I flew around in my Panther Clipper 'flying fortress', was virtually impervious to anything my enemies could do, and I did not know what to do with my money anymore. That was the moment the game died and the only thing I could do was starting a new game.

You did not try to become Elite ?

;)

I remember aiming mine at a station, then ejecting and watching it crash.
Then working my way up again.

So what are we talking here a sidewinder is like the equivalent of a pickup truck and a cobra the tonnage of a long distance lorry?

I'm trying to think of current transport/logistics and the economics involved, I think a metal container you see on ships are 20ft and called 1 teu and weigh 14 tonnes. The biggest ships can carry 10000+ containers.

Are we saying the cobra can carry 36 tonnes or two and a half teu container equivalent. Ferrying only 36 tonnes of stuff doesn't sound too economical when you think of the distances involved so is one cannister in elite more than a couple of tonnes?

I do not even remember to be honest. I never cared for stuff like that in any game. I hardly payed attention to what level I was. I just played the game like there was no tomorrow. Frontier was my first true love in gaming. I was very good at it after all the hundreds of hours I put in, but I have no idea if I ever became Elite. I couldn't tell if my life depended on it.

I was hoping to keep a low profile until I could defend myself in a Cobra. Oh well.

Seems to me that is the point of the trading element of the game and always has been. Even if your only able to carry 4 canisters at a time you'll be having so much fun taking in the sights you won't notice. Anyway, if the combat missions against NPCs are as easy as impeccable defense is currently then you'll probably want to grind some kills without much risk.

Currently the only difficult thing about that scenario is hyper-spacing out of there when two Impeccable's appear and begin making love in front of you, then the frame-rate drops to a flick show and you have to try to work the panels and hope you don't end up in the middle of it all. But I digress...
