Cargo Hatch Malfunctioned... the single biggest annoyance in the game!

Well I'm on my way to Colonia to spend a few weeks or months out there. I thought I'd sign up to the Community Goal and take some Galactic Travel Guides out.

I'm four jumps from Polo Harbour, what I'll describe as the "final motorway service station" on the route, and encounter a massive white star with a huge gravity well from which I can't escape.

I took massive damage and, quell surprise, my Cargo Hatch malfunctions jettisoning all the travel guides. You can't even drop down and collect them again after AFMU repairs, because the way the game is set up, when they're gone this way, they just gone forever.

Now I have to spend the next three weeks looking at an unfulfilled Community Goal in my ship status panel, as I can't get rid of it, and won't be going all the way back to buy more.

#Swearword!

Yeah, those well and truly suck. Lol

All i can suggest is next time, fly with a heatsink bound to a firegroup. If it happens again, drop a heat sink.

I believe you can also shutdown your cargo hatch to prevent it opening. Don't quote me on that though!

Never had this issue, but then I ALWAYS carry a couple of heat sinks since they`ve often saved me from overheating near stars.

I think it`s cool that your hatch can be damaged and you lose cargo though, didn`t know it was possible.

Yes. And, don't need a fire group, they have their own button. :)

I guess this doesn't help. I know that a cargo hatch can malfunction and loose cargo when being shot at, even when powered down. So i guess the same thing can happen to a cargo hatch when taking heat damage.

3303 engineering and they can't make a tough enough mechanicms to not make your cnaopy accidently flush out cargo at 85% integrity. GG engifails, a western saloon swingdoor would do that job better.

Also does that mean cargo isn't even fixated in our ships and just floating around so that the canopy broken make sstuff lfushign out? WOW. yeriously serp engineering, seriously deep derp.

Yes, that's how Pirates are SUPPOSED to take cargo - by firing on your cargo hatch until it pops open like a pinata.

But no.. not here. They just blow up ships, get nothing to show for it, and complain that Piracy is broken.

Yea. Now consider how it looks like when those people try to eat a banana... :D

Oh come on. I'm sure we can think of bigger annoyances than the cargo hatch if we put our mind to it :D

Deep space exploration is dangerous. As much as I feel your pain after the trip I hope you don't get them re-added by support, it is part of the game, its avoidable and can be managed by building your ship with safety elements. Also support is meant to be the people that fix things after bugs, not the "I messed up plz help" hotline.

Cargo hatch malfunctions are one of the tools pirates have to do piratey stuff.

Better your cargo hatch than something important.

On a side note, I'm sorry that you're on your way to Colonia :)

They get tired of patience after the first 10 victims combat log, and the one that sticks around just swears and while dropping next to nothing because shooting out cargo hatches is surprisingly ineffective :)

So much this.

It's absolutely not a flaw. OP, take your lickin' and keep on tickin'.

How many 1000Ly's was it, did you say?

I've opened a ticket to see if I can get them restored, as I believe this to be a flaw in the game.

Wish me luck :(

Cargo hatch malfunctions are part of the game design. As far as I'm concerned your lack of heatsinks and the fact that you jumped into an unknow star blindly under SC throttle is an (expensive) lesson you should learn from. Throttle down during the jump countdown if you're not wanting to be hit with a surprise as you exit the jump.

Having them vanish in an unrecoverable way is something that I think should be ticketable. Let's face, it - dropping cargo with nobody else in sight to collect it should at least give you the chance to recover it. The fact that you're forced by the game engine to switch instances AND the fact that the old instance is DELETED by the game as soon as the last player leaves it - THAT is a problem not of your own making and so I wish you luck with your ticket. Nonetheless, heed the lesson(s) you have learned from this!

I could be wrong but I think if your cargo hatch is powered off it doesn't spew cargo when damaged.

I had a similar cargo hatch malfunction and lost valuable goodies on a trip to Colonia, and now when I travel long distances with cargo I always power down the hatch.
