Cargo Rack for Exploration

Maybe a small cargo rack in the unlikely event that you find something interesting that's worth picking up. In my last long range exploration, I didn't bother with a cargo rack, and didn't miss it. Guess if you have spare space, can carry but I found an AFMU more useful. Also, assuming your ship is stripped down for exploration and not combat, the likelihood of NPC interception increases if you carry any valuable cargo, so there's that additional risk.

Yep, for limpets, you need cargo space. 1 limpet = 1 storage space.

If you have an AFMU, minor hull damage is not much of a problem. Think my exploration ship had 67% hull integrity when I got back to a station in the bubble... but had modules repaired and working using an AFMU (which does not need limpets).

AFMU should be a repair limpet controller as well. And have a capacity to have 10 limpets in it for hull etc. Its a field maintainance unit anyway

I headed out for a trip in an Asp Explorer, no weapons, minimal shields, decided to throw in a cargo rack just in case. I ended up picking up an escape pod and forgot all about it by the time I returned. When the pirate was going on about the tasty cargo in my hold, I had no clue what he was talking about. I barely made it out alive, and jettisoned the escape pod to spite of the who I almost lost my life to rescue.

Proof that zombies exists in Elite Dangerous too!

Imo you don't need repair limpets if you have a shield generator and land carefully.

If you happen to crash into a star the damage is negligible as long as this doesn't happen often.

I will sacrifice my cargo rack for a 3A amfu.
If I ever happen to make a discovery a forum post with screens and coordinates will do.

Btw, I don't like exploration condas.
Undersizing doesn't feel right and maneuverability is horrible.
Also, my Conda is war fitted. Only one ship for everything is boring.

Exploration is not about getting fast to your destination but the way.
My ASP gets 52+ ly, more than good enough.
With the booster it will have over 60, so no problem.

I'd like to see them make a version of ADS and DSS that goes on the OUTSIDE of the ship, in a utility slot, like all the other scanners (manifest, wake, and kill warrant scanners). It's not like the utility mounts can't handle the weight. Shield boosters weigh more.

Not entirely sure about the idea of changing those things after so long but, I dunno.

I'd hope FDev are considering more stuff which can attach to utility slots and hardpoints if they're going to add new modules as part of the Q3 update though.

When it comes to exploration, the DBX already forces the player to make compromises, the AspX is just about still capable of an optimal loadout and then there's the Anaconda.
I really, really don't want to be forced to fly around in an Annie in order to make use of any new toys.

Half an hour outfitting a ship for exploration should be long enough for anybody to realise that the hardpoints and util' slots are left woefully empty.
Hopefully even FDev staffers can find that amount of time to play-test their ideas before implementing them in-game.
