Cargo Scanning should be a Crime

Much like interdictions, anyone scanning the cargo of another, has no good intentions and is an invasion of the privacy of the scanned cmdr. Therefore it should be a crime. It's a prelude to one more more crimes being committed.

Your thoughts?

While I agree that interdictions are a hostile act, I don't agree that scanning cargo is. After all the target could carry stolen goods. Also interdictions cause damage, while scanning does not. Also you have to be in scanning range to do it effectively.

Thing is, if you're searching for smugglers, it's a necessary thing. It would be nice if things like interdiction and cargo scanning were made legal only for people with a bounty hunting licence, but the problem is you'd just have everyone work towards such a licence just so they could have it, so it wouldn't really serve a purpose other than essentially an early quest. No real way to enforce the kind of people who get such a licence or have it revoked if they suddenly turn pirate.

what I dont understand is why there is no defense against cargo scanning and interdicting; I think they should upgrade my ECM which is electronic counter measures to do more than a chance as stopping missile lock on; if someone is scanning you; ECM should jam them; that is what ECM is; I know; I am a US veteran and was in the signal corp. Sci fi has lots of stuff to jam sensors; give false images; whatnot but so far I have not seen any in the game. I dont know that my ECM device I have loaded is doing all that much; but I am hoping for an upgrade or get more use out of it. I think all these auto scans that people get that are always successful is missing the point of the Cold War; it was about running the other guy out of money to upgrade his stuff; so should be a battle vs scanners and ECM devices; the better one wins.

Deploying chaff used to break scans on you. I am not sure when they changed that.
