Newcomer / Intro CARGO SCOOP PROBLEM

Hello,

I need help. I am picking up canisters by using my 'cargo scoop' but I am having trouble picking it up because the ITEM isn't showing on the 'cargo scoop monitor' on the UI panel/dashboard as shown on the screen shot:

My cargo scoop is enabled as you can see, and the cargo scoop monitor (pointed by the arrow) is showing but I don't see the item in it, nor is it targeted on the crosshair. What gives?!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Are you sure you have an empty room for the cargo?
It should display "Cargo bay full" warning over the scooping hologram, though. Hmm.

No idea, sorry. Does every item you target not show on the target screen?

Try raising the nose of your ship. The cargo scoop is located underneath the ship, so if you fly close to the item you want to scoop, you will not see it through your cockpit window.

Another thought - does your Cobra have a cargo compartment at all?
As Chris said, if the cargo bay is full, a warning should be displayed, but I'm not sure what happens if you have no cargo bay at all.

Mr. Lava Lava - sounds like some lyrics to a song I know but in a special dialect

Looks like to me that you are too close and the cargo is out of range of the crosshairs so you need to back up a bit.
Plus targeted cargo should look like:

You have to target the item (white) you want to scoop.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THAT ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This is true for anything you want to scoop, including materials on planets/moons. I am embarrassed to look back at the amount of time I spent whizzing back and forth over this stuff and wondering why it wouldn't get hooverd up before I twigged.

He's got it targeted, it's a canister of Clothing, right in front of his hair-cross.
And I believe 90m is far enough to see it on the scoop monitor. The only possibility I can think of is indeed no cargo space available.

It's got brackets, it shows in the target display on the lower-hand left side display - I'd assume it's targeted alright.
No cargo space available should trigger a message, though I don't know if it always does.

My money would be on "nose pitch up required", but that's just guessing.

It looks like he has *a* canister targeted (see his scanner), but it doesn't look like it's the one pictured straight ahead. You don't have the square/diamond braces around it if it's targeted.

Looking at the image that the OP linked at as high a zoom as I can here I think I can see on the scanner a a vertical line from the top of the targeted item on the scope which would indicate that it is below the plane of the ship, I suspect that unusually for scooping he is aimed too high. I try to get the target on the same level as me as I close up and I do that quite some distance from the target so that long before I get to 90 meters I am largely flying by the scoop scanner.

Remember 90 meters is in the order of a ship length away so the misalignment won't need to be much for the canister not to show on the cargo scope.

No those are the symbols for a targeted object in the scope.

Yes, in the scope you can see he has an object targeted. But in the object visual straight ahead, it has the 'square brace' rather than the "3 triangle" indicator, which says to me it might not be the same object. (Or else this is a bug!)

I see what you mean now, that must be something further back I think there is another canister? on the scanner about there. I am now trying to remember if canisters show up like that it might well be a beacon if they don't. Just checked they do so that will be the one behind the targeted canister.

Now we have worked this out do you suppose those canisters are still there?

Assuming that the item is within 100m and as there was some question about the selected target this may not help but I found it useful to use the classified camera to see where the scoop was, although I didn't look at the sidewinder.

In safe space, preferably without cargo to avoid NPC attacks you can enable it with Ctrl + Alt + Space. As the cockpit is on the top of the sidewinder and the cargo scoop is on the far back you will need to be a more nosed up than may be apparent.

I checked this again last night. The square brackets are fine. The 3 triangles will show only when I deploy my hardpoints, but that's not required for scooping.

But my initial suspicion of 'nose too high' was incorrect as well. With the cargo some 100 meters out, you should still see it in your field of view, even when it's centered in the scoop crosshair. It disappears underneath the ship only when I get closer than 50m (observation based on my AspX).

So it must be either incorrect targeting (which the screenshot does not suggest to me), a full (or non-existent) cargo hold, or a bug.

Nose too high distance varies by ship and would certainly lead to what you are seeing. You should target the canister some distance out then use the cargo scoop display to fly towards it, not your cross hairs. If anyone is going to test the distance then needs to be in the same ship.

Hi Guys, the canister[clothing] IS targeted and the diamond white square that you are seeing is just another canister right behind the targeted item. As you can see in the 'Scanner'(the middle UI in the dashboard panel), there are actually 6 canisters/items within range indicated by 6 white squares (sorry for the bad angle of shot, i shouldn't have included the other canister there, so as to avoid confusion).

Well anyway, I did fly away from it and still keep on locking at the canister but the canister still isn't showing in my cargo scoop monitor. At some point, it did appear however, but within a few seconds it disappeared on the monitor, not because it was out of the monitor, but it just disappeared within the monitor just when it was about to be hit by the cross-hair. If only I could capture the whole problem with a video screenshot, it would be much easier for you guys to see the problem but I don't have the time and tools for that. :(

I don't what I'm doing wrong and what is going on here, but I could just conclude that it is possibly a bug..

Try stopping about 300 meters away lining up then approaching dead slow guiding yourself with the cargo scoop screen.
